Regular large-scale exercises from mainland China’s military have prompted warnings that the island’s military must stay alert to the risk.

Oh, really? You don’t say? So military exercises are actually threats? What about when the US does them in the South China Sea? Or in Korea? Or in Ukraine? Are those violent threats?
No. Can you guess why?
I guess not.
a lemm.ee user with a name like “bot” is just so on the nose, you couldn’t be more creative
So moving nukes around on submarines or planes during exercises which are indistinguishable from an actual invasion until the moment when the vehicle changes course - such events are not violent threats?
Is it because the US doesn’t make threats but rather just indiscriminately bombs whoever it wants and has done so for the last 80 years with no consequences?
no no, tell us why large scale exercises by the chinese coast are ominous but only when china does it
Because only China wants to annex some territory there.
But this thought is too complicated, I guess.
How many military bases does the USA have in the South China Sea?
Read history. China is inclusive of the island of Taiwan. One Chinese military fought another Chinese military in a civil war and the loser retreated to the Chinese island of Taiwan. And then you know what happened? The USA and the UK intervened and blockaded the island to prevent the civil war from resolving.
Why did they do that? Because the US and UK wanted to have continued influence over the resources and labor of China, and they knew the Chinese military that won the war didn’t want to give them that influence, so instead they protected the loser and promised him they would keep the hope alive and give him military assistance so that one day he could fight another civil war and win and then he could give the US and UK compensation.
And what happened? Well, that Chinese military, the one that lost, formed a fascist blood thirsty dictatorshipnand prosecuted the White Terror for decades, killing many thousands for even speaking about the fact that they were all Chinese and that the losers should just get back together with the winner and finalize a union and stop kowtowing to these foreign Interlopers.
China cannot possibly annex Taiwan because it is already part of China, has been a part of China for well over a century, is ruled by the Chinese, and is recognized by nearly every world governing system as part of China. Just like no matter how much some Alabama Confederates wish their town was part of the Confederacy, no one recognizes that on the world stage. Taiwan is a special case only because of US and UK intervention and meddling.
You don’t understand, the USA are wholesome good guys, like marvel super heroes and China evil bad guys. No other nuance or understanding is needed on any international relations. When the US spends billions of sending weapons it is a good thing! Oh but Trump bad, that has nothing to do with anything.
America has troops on the ground on Chinese territory, territory which the US itself formally recognizes as PRC territory. They have annexed foreign territory and your position is that the nation who legally has the right to it is the annexer for wanting it back.
Given the United States history of involvement in that part of the world, I’d say it is a violent threat.
