Had strange dreams about old "friends"

The two guys I thought were my friends too, were just my ex’s friends. Believed I was transphobic and whatnot. Took her word over mine. It’s sad, one of them taught me how to build a PC, and the other him and I got along so well. I’m sad about what I lost because of my liar ex. It doesn’t help when I try to console myself that those two were never really my friends, because then it all feels like a lie.

And another friend, my ex and I met him when we played Destiny and Destiny 2. He and I had a shared love for Blind Guardian and power metal, we could chat about anything. I thought he was awesome! But as soon as I broke up with my ex, this friend tried to date me. A betrayal of sorts. What I thought was platonic, and I was even planning on going to Adelaide to hang out with him, was another lie.

He ghosted me when I said I was dating my now partner.

I guess I’m just feeling a sense of loss. It’s okay to lose friends, it’s just part of life. But it’s sad I lost people I trusted, and who I thought liked me for me. Who I thought would believe me, or wanted a platonic friendship.

Ah well, I like the friends I have now better anyway. They’re funny and make me laugh, different life experiences, unconnected to my past, and I love them and love talking to them. I hope I am someone they enjoy talking to as well!

vacuumed the floor yesterday. Was vaccuming again 2 hours later cause the kiddo wanted a musli bar. And it was then that it dawned on me: this is why my house looks like a dumpster fire most of the time. Unless I’m cleaning 24/7 it just aint gonna remain clean. Ah well.

You let it go at one point, because life is too short for that nonsense. I insisted my kids remain in one place when eating, which helped a bit lol. I’ve said to people before, “People live here. It’s not a fucking display home!” Those people include my in-laws, who in the past were prone to randomly wander in unannounced and do what I call a “peer and sneer.” The old man especially was a terrible fuss pot. Fuck 'em! As long as the place is not actually a hygiene issue you’re golden.

People made the mistake of giving my kids grated cheese yesterday, they grab a handful and try to put as much into their mouth as they can. It’s a nightmare of a mess because you can’t just vacuum it. Leave it to dry and it could just get stomped into the floor. Sweep too hard and you could just smear it. We really shouldn’t just offer them the bag to grab handfuls

Are they old enough to use it as a chopstick training medium?

I own a dog, dropped cheese is NEVER a problem.

Unfortunately we don’t have a dog. It would be very well fed at our place.

Chopsticks would be beyond them at the moment. We still need to get them to use cutlery instead of just their hands

Dog ownership should be a prerequisite for parenthood, if only to do the food clean ups!

Yoghurt dries out fast and then you’re left with that semi solid paste of the cultures. It’s a real headache if you don’t get on it straight away

House clean once a day is achievable (with robovac). The rest of the time it’s just life happening. Better a happy house than a clean, unhappy one. Don’t sweat the small stuff (except ants).

I have no kids and still struggle to keep the place decent. Mess is so easy to make and cleaning is such a chore. Literally every action to exist makes mess. Eat food, use toilets, walk around, wear clothes etc. Not to mention general stuff and storage and actually doing things and living life. I wonder if people with pristine houses just sit and stare into space most of the time, so no mess is created. The way I see it, if regular cleans are getting done and nothing is unhygienic, good enough. My house is lived in. It’s reality not instagram.

I want a roomba, but am nervous about the cat having an accident somewhere and it being smeared across the house.

We never had any issues on that front - we have an old as balls 880 series. It has on occasion found vomit…and eaten it. We only found out when wondering why the hell the roomba smelled like that.

Since the poop smearing vids went viral the newer models actually have detectors for that sort of thing. They’ve been promising their fecal painting days are over since '21

Peeler and I were just comparing notes on this very topic. Houses suck, they require more cleaning the more people and pets we put in them!

Got a call from my new boss about starting next week.

Come in whenever on Monday, we’ll get a coffee, set up your equipment and go from there.

If you want to work from home the rest of the week that’s cool.

    Butterflies officially gone

I have a sleep study booked!! Low key hoping they find something - I know I snore bad. But they have given me basically no info except to turn up prepared to stay the night at hospital. Anyone got any tips?

Expect a shitty interrupted sleep – unfamiliar bed and environment, probably not totally quiet or totally dark, nurse may need to wake you to reattach sensors that have fallen off, etc. It’s not necessary to sleep straight through to get good results though; wish I knew beforehand.

Expect to be grumpy and tired the day after, and travel home with gross electrode gel in your hair.

I’d probably bring my own pillow(s) next time.

Cool. Thanks. Luckily sleeping is my superpower (possibly long undiagnosed sleep apnea thing there) so I am hoping I will be able to sleep. But yeah I might clear my next mortar work just in case. Thanks! And good tip about the pillow

Stayed up late having a great chat with some mates on discord. We’re all facing pros and woes in our lives. It was great to talk it out with some peers.

Finally got around to watching the season finale of Severance.

All I can say is wow, what a ride even if the last few episodes seemed way too slow.

A perk of getting in early is I can print off a flyer for the Beestation I made without anyone asking questions
