Summary

Republican lawmakers plan to fund tax cuts and defense spending by cutting Medicaid, despite risks of backlash from their own constituents.

Medicaid provides health coverage to 72 million Americans, including many in GOP strongholds like Louisiana, Kentucky, Mississippi, West Virginia, and Arkansas.

While some Republicans express concern, no senator has openly opposed the cuts. House Speaker Mike Johnson suggests work requirements to limit Medicaid benefits.

Democrats warn of devastating impacts, recalling GOP struggles after past Medicaid cuts. Legal battles over work requirements continue, with Arkansas pushing to reinstate them under a potential Trump administration.

Gov. Bill Lee has proposed a $3 million state-run summer food assistance program that would cost the state less, but serve fewer children.

Sounds like a real champion of the people there. Especially starving children. What a man of God.

“Fewer children”? As in “Only white” or what? Or maybe “Only at churches” or “When participating Republican re-education camps”?
