You sent me down a wikipedia rabbit hole. Technically it is THE Metro. The precursor to the Underground was the Metropolitan Railway and the Underground still uses a lot of the old stations. All other metros are named after the Metropolitan Railway, which was the first of it’s kind.
It is called London Underground (or Tube), so there is that.
