How often do Tigers even run into another tiger?

All the time. While tigers lead solitary lifestyles, they’re not devoid of socialization. Territories overlap and lead to peaceful interactions and conflicts over borders. Sometimes they even cooperate in hunting or live together, though that’s less frequent. The nature of their interactions is mostly dictated by sexual relations and the ratio of tigers to prey.

This is not meant to contribute to the tiger vs lion issue.

I also think it’s interesting to note that while the mane serves a practical purpose, it’s also wildly oversized as a result of sexual selection.

  • I don’t think I understand.

!Why is “time” considered the final word even though the actual word is “space-time”? Why is “with” abbreviated instead of translated?!<

It seems that the clue only makes sense retroactively rather than leading to the answer.

It’s unfortunate that the tutorial is a spoiler for this puzzle because it means I can’t even try to solve one today.

    e:

I found yesterday’s by happenstance and now realize that the video is meant to explain the answer, not explain how to play.

::: When taken by itself “at the second” would mean “now”, and interpreting it as “ignore everything but the second letter of each word” seems like such a wild assumption. :::

Are these clues perhaps built on a culture of references that would be more familiar to a particular puzzle community?

  • I didn’t get that far into the show because I was bored and lost in the space battles. Action scenes are always shakey cameras and me being confused about who’s on what ship. I was extremely interested in the human dramas, politics, and especially the mystery of the fungal thing. The acting and dialects were really cool though, and I’d probably miss out on those unless the author does a good job writing them. Does it seem like I’d prefer reading it instead? I kind of feel like I just talked myself into trying the show again. :s

Has is occurred to you that the reason no one is arguing that Biden and Harris aren’t pieces of shit is because they are actually pieces of shit, and no one in this reply chain said otherwise? That’s why “no one said that” was so funny to me.

Everything about biology is a random effect. Even a mutation that’s selected for wasn’t planned; it just happened by chance. Like if you’re an aquatic species maybe you’ll end up being a strong swimmer over generations, but the water doesn’t pressure you towards that on its own. You have to coincidentally develop flukes that make you a stronger swimmer before those traits can be selected for.

Sometimes traits that get passed down aren’t beneficial at all because they don’t make an impact on reproduction. Think of an animal that comes in many colors like a house cat or certain fish species. In such cases it’s clear that the color of the animal doesn’t have any bearing on its ability to reproduce, so a variety of colors are passed down for no particular reason.

  • My favorite application for AI is as a search tool. I can describe concepts to ChatGPT and it will tell me what it’s called and lead me to further reading.

For example, I once showed it a picture and asked it about the art style. I told it what I liked about it and asked for suggestions of other styles or techniques that would have a similar appeal. It was a very fruitful experience that just can’t be done with a search bar.

That said, it’s Reddit. I’m sure it’ll be terrible.

  • I’m not saying it’s okay for him to waste resources, but they can just stop trying to stop him if they want. They could even legalize euthanasia of they really want to test him. He has access to help according to the article.

With regard to obesity, I don’t really understand the difference between killing yourself quickly because of poor health and killing yourself slowly because of poor health. Nobody gets to the point of being immobile because they’re doing great, but we still don’t forcibly control them.

We temporarily confine intoxicated people and/or escort them home because public intoxication is generally illegal. Alcoholism isn’t something I’ve heard of someone being held for against their will. I’ve heard of repeat offenders being assigned mandatory rehab, but that’s not something you get for being drunk at home or for ending up in the ER with alcohol poisoning.

We don’t allow people to do dangerous things that might be a liability issue, but it’s completely legal to dive in caves and jump out of planes and climb Everest, even though you could be injured or die. We’re not trying to protect people from themselves; we’re trying to protect ourselves from their lawsuit.

  • Why are you making it one thing or the other? We can have more than one conversation. Do you think we should shut up about trans rights altogether because all this bickering over such an insignificant number of people is distracting from larger human rights issues?

If it’s the case that the conversation itself upsets you because it hurts and you’re sick of seeing it, I totally get that; it’s valid.

  • It depends on where the kids are in their development. AFAB and AMAB kids are functionally identical until puberty starts. A trans child should, imo, be allowed puberty-prevention treatments so that they can choose what kind of puberty they’d like to have when they’re older. And that’s sure as heck not doing anyone favors in the athletics department.

  • Ah, I wondered if it might have been a typo since “mistborn” seems like a more plausible word. I’ve been meaning to get around to Sanderson since forever, but I didn’t do any reading for the longest time, and I’ve been on a big sci-fi kick since starting up again because I’m mostly interested in stories that use novel premises to examine issues like human rights and the nature of consciousness/life, etc. I’ve felt like fantasy is too meaningless adventure-y? Not enough induction of personal growth. But I’m in the middle of The Magicians right now, and that’s really proving me wrong, and also there was Tehanu. That was a hard book to read because it was so real.

    Anyhow, thanks to you both.
