Nice phishing question though.

4·13 days agoWhen server CPUs go idle, it takes them some time to get spinning again when they’re needed. So I keep this low resource bash one liner running in the back ground to keep my CPUs lightly active. This way there’s always a little momentum going and they never stop spinning:

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Email for self hosted services? (Not personal email)English
3·15 days agoGood answer! I get tired of the self hosted email FUD. Sure there’s more to it than “docker up” (Maddy is close though) but it’s not that hard and it’s thoroughly documented at this point. So many tutorials.

2·15 days agoPort 25 being blocked on residential connections is still a thing, but it’s much less of a thing than it used to be.
I’ve never had an issue just using the submission port when the default smtp port was blocked :D
I’ve never run into it being blocked on a VPS or ded host provider. I wonder if this is a locale thing or if you’ve been unlucky enough to choose providers that attract enough abusers to require these policies.

2·15 days agoI’m gonna dive in to the new Guild Wars 2 content that came out Tuesday. I’m pretty excited to get closer to resolution on the current story and some of the new events look like a good time.
I also burned myself out a bit on the last area they released by trying for some very RNG heavy achievements (if you didn’t wanna spend a bunch of gold anyway) so it’ll be nice to spend time in a new area even if it turns out to be mid content :D

2·1 month agoI believe that there is now LLM generated code in the Linux kernel, so BSD is probably going to be where this path leads you. Solaris or AIX maybe ;p

2·1 month agoThey’re still a bit pricey compared to the disposable pants you’d buy at a large chain store, but N&F has a brand (unbranded brand) that is notably cheaper and lacks the N&F branding.

Reddit@lemmy.world•now that old.reddit doesn't allow access to content without using an account, is there any way to access content WITHOUT creating an account?English
0·1 month agoSame here, both old.reddit.com and the new layout (i.e. just reddit.com) work fine for me without a login. All I have to do is dismiss the little flyout that asks if I want to login using google.
Even in Chrome. Even without Ublock origin. Even from the USA, without a VPN.
Ready for the incredibly complex fully elite hack? CAN YOU HANDLE IT?! DO YOU HAVE THE TECHNOLOGY?

ETA: With the large variety of responses in this thread, I’m really curious if this works for other people or if I’m just super lucky.
The 3 seems to just be an incrementing number for each file opened by the process.
FWIW: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File_descriptor#file_descriptor_table
If you throw an
straceon a process that interacts with the filesystem you’ll see that stuff likeopen()returns a file descriptor and stuff likeread()takes a file descriptor as an argument. These are also generally the numbers you’re using when you do I/O redirection in your shell with stuff like
&1orexec 5< ./some_file.txt

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Does a 'Welcome' mat give vampires permission to enter your house?English
17·1 month agoThis is/was “hotly debated”. IMO public schools are like any other public thing and accessible to vamps generally, and Angel was just being sassy when Jenny asked him how he got in.
But along those lines, my initial response was “Depends on who’s writing” with the Angel/Jenny school scene in mind. “Enter all who seek knowledge” or whatever.
Overall they were not very consistent when it came to the invitation thing.
He looks like he’s really Buggin’ Out.

Install Gentoo and never look back.

That book was likely a huge boost to my career. My first tech job was for a very small shop and the owner insisted that everything run Solaris. Which meant sendmail all day long.
That book got me through some rough times. Fucking sendmail milters … in 2000.
I share your pain!
Doing email should be it’s own tech specialty, like ‘devops’ or ‘db admin’ is.
It literally is, and has been for quite a while :D Enterprise level email admins make a pretty penny eheheh.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Is Roots really that controversial that it needs to be banned? Haven't watched the movie cause I quit pot and haven't read the book but isn't it like historical or something?English
6·5 months agoIt’s a quote from “Gone in sixty seconds”. It’s not a whole trope, just a one off thing.
Also for those not in the know, two hours of Roots barely gets you through the intro. It’s like 1/8th of the movie.
Any idea who is being quoted in the tweet?

Mostly with a mooltipass. I also save them in a keepass db that is only written to a thumb drive, for redundancies sake.
