I 3d printed one once. Kinda fun, but upside down

Technology@lemmy.world•Leak Reveals Microsoft Wants Its AI To Be 'Addictive'English
18·2 days agoNot necessarily. If it answers you question and go go about your day, that’s not as good for Microsoft user numbers/engagement.
They probably want it to just barely get you exactly what you need to keep you on the edge. Once they start training models for user engagement the enshitification will begin

Technology@lemmy.world•Leak Reveals Microsoft Wants Its AI To Be 'Addictive'English
6·2 days agoThey just want it to he addictive so that people use it a bunch. Then they try to sell enterprise level versions to companies they can say look how much people use it, it must be because it is so useful
Cool concept in theory, SUPER annoying and risky because in federal use because there is no “undo button” for all the mistakes the agent will make though

DeGoogle Yourself@lemmy.ml•Are the changes to Google Search (AI mode as default) the final nail in the coffin for the open web?
0·7 days agoThis! There are plenty of decent search engine alternatives. Keep using the alternatives and yapping about them to other people
For really lightweight models, Qwen3:8b is pretty good for an 8gb graphics card.
Gemma 4:e4b is pretty good too. I usually sun that on my 16gb gpu.
Obviously the little ones aren’t as good as big ones, but you can always rely on real intelligence to fill in the gaps

Technology@beehaw.org•Delivery robots are spreading across LA. Residents ‘both pity and hate them’
0·13 days agoI will say, I do like the idea of physically disabled folks getting to drive or co trolls robots/remote cars, especially if they have microphones and stuff.
I’ll look for the video, but there was this really cool Cafe in Japan that employed bed-ridden people to work as robots in a cafe

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•So, has age verification really become the new normal?
0·17 days agoAge verification as in check a box that days you’re over 18? Or like upload a photo or ID?

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What do you think of people who say, "Oh, you have something to hide?" Come on, man, who needs you?
4·20 days agoPrivacy is important because laws and “normal” can change. What might be normal and legal today, could become illegal someday. Then suddenly all your data that used to describe you as a boring normal person, now describes you as a “domestic terrorist”

3DPrinting@lemmy.world•What software are you using for CAD/modeling?English
0·23 days agoI’m still learning FreeCAD, but so far is seems just fine to me! Just different from what I am used to. But there are a few good channels on YouTube that do good tutorials
Yeah I was curious about that. Like I can poke around in the immich directory, but the actual pictures are stored in a weird structure. Do you have any recommendations?
One of my first self hosting projects was a jellyfin server. Double check, but I think the main hardware requirements are just 4GB of RAM and enough harddrive space for your videos/files!
I really like immich too. It’s like Google photos, but self hosted. It’s super fast for uploading and backing up your photos over your local network. Immich also needs at least 4GB of RAM I think
I’m with ya there. I think a lot of the valid hate towards AI is is actually for Big Tech companies and data centers.
I support folks running less powerful locally hosted models on their own hardware, which I also do myself!

AI@lemmy.ml•Spending Just 10 Minutes With AI Can Fry Your Brain, Researchers Find
0·1 month agoPretty interesting! I guess my opinion on the topic of AI rotting your brain is that we should continue to find projects or work that challenge us, even while using AI. Like if everything you are working on can easily be done by AI, maybe you should find something harder to work on.
I’m saying that from like a hobby/project perspective. If you’re just at work to check out and get a paycheck, yeah who cares, get you work done quick and enjoy your time!
Not saying your movie will be bad, but that trailer was really bad.
Audio was all over place, no continuity, and a bunch of obvious flaws or things that don’t make sense videos.
I feel like AI could potentially be used in experimental films, but you probably at a minimum need consistent character LoRAs and to use something like WAN Animate or SCAIL to get meaningful motion and reactions.
It also needs a good story of course. 8f the story if actually good, you don’t need visuals and could just write a book. But poor, incoherrrent visuals could also distrace from a mediocre story too

It was just something from thingiverse so you could put a 1.25" eyepiece up to a Canon EF lens I think
