I use these services as a newsfeed. I already have accounts and RSS feeds set up everywhere. It’s just a matter of waiting for the people I follow to fully make the switch.

When you stream you’re still downloading. I prefer to have finer grain control over my buffer zone for when I’m offline.

I use RSSHub to generate feeds for my subscriptions, then use this trick on Thunderbird to open video links directly with yt-dlp.

I use LocalSend to move the videos (and other files) to VLC.

Yep. The community pages all provide RSS feeds and Mastodon has them as well.

It’s so nice using it as an all-in-one newsfeed aggregated with everything else.

Thunderbird fails the check. I can’t access communities through my RSS reader.

Is this why Thunderbird is suddenly spouting errors whenever it checks a lemmy.ca feed? I’m not a bot.

Hardware was definitely the issue. What got me to first install Linux was my wireless card just randomly stopped working. People were recommending that I do a full reinstall of Vista to get internet working again. I installed Ubuntu instead and never looked back.

I started with Ubuntu, switched to Mint and finally settled on Arch.
