I have never seen that much rust on an active USN ship! That’s insane and indicative of serious neglect.
I served on this same ship during the extended deployment in support of the invasion of Iraq in 2003. It was not even close to being this bad.

I use 3-2-1 backup strategy.
In the past I used google drive as a cloud backup. Periodic checks showed that the files stored on google did not have matching hashes. The files were changed somehow. Furthermore, the hashes changed from one month to the next.
I redownloaded the files and they were corrupted. Pictures had the wrong colors, videos had sections missing.
I kept the files on the drive and retested monthly. (I had paid for the year) They degraded every month.
I don’t know how or why but google drive is not worth it, even at a free level. They will corrupt your data.
I have not tried onedrive because, in my mind, microsoft is even lower than google on quality.
My point is… Linux with multiple offsite backups. Buddy backups recommend over trusting any corp.

What is recommended for a TV box?
I have tried google/android TV but the ads are everywhere and I don’t trust google not to track everything.
I have tried a raspberry pi running Kodi but it’s not very good for anything except jellyfin. I still want to view streaming services on occasion.
My next attempt will be an apple TV but i don’t trust apple and despise their walled garden.
I would like something FOSS and optimized for TV viewing. I thought about using a linux OS and using the browser for streaming, but it does not look good from the sofa and requires a keyboard mouse.

The power increase in demand is primarily due to all the data centers being built. Some requiring their own power plants.
The data centers also increase humidity in a few ways. The big one being the exhausted warm water from cooling and power generation is more easily evaporated.
Just because you pay a subscription to avoid ads does not mean your data is not still being harvested and sold. The big exception is now they have a payment method tied to a specific person not just an ad profile.

Whatever you do, backup all of your important files and data from Windows before you attempt anything. To be extra safe create a Windows recovery USB.
After you have backed up important things then just read as much as you can regarding your OS of choice, like MX, and then try it. Having a second source of internet for any problems that may arise is recommended, like a smartphone.
And then try it. My first foray into Linux dealt me about a week of struggles before I got ot working. That was 20 years ago and thing have gotten better since then.
You will struggle at first. You may even fail a few times, but the feeling of accomplishment and the freedom of having an OS that allows you to do what you want and not what a corporation deems profitable is priceless. You will enjoy that feeling.
I started with a Raspberry Pi connected to an external hard drive. As my collection grew I built a server. It has NAS rated drives in RAID with a low end CPU and modest GPU. Now I have a large collection and everything is transcoded on the fly.
I also use the server to host Immich. So I no longer need to use Google photos or drive.
I wrote a bash script to check for updates to channels I like. It runs nighly via cron. If there is a new video it automatically downloads it using yt-dlp to my Jellyfin library. There is a yt-dlp flag that incorporates sponsor block. Since I download videos overnight large channels have already been included by sponsor block. So I get videos completely ad and sponsor free.
Everything is done behind a VPN. This approach allows me to completely bypass using a browser further protecting me from tracking.
When I wake up in the morning I have all the new videos from my favorite channels ad and sponsor free. I can watch from my computer, phone, or TV. If I’m away from my home network I use Tailscale to stream to my location.
The only downside I experience is not getting to watch the video until the day after upload.
I use ublock origin for my browser and use Mullvad DNS with content blockers. I don’t know what VPN you use but as long as you can set your own DNS then Mullvad servers should work.
If your router allows you to set the DNS server you can block ads network wide.

I had one and only put gas in it when taking a trip out of town. On a road trip I would get about 38mpg. Not great for what is was but better than anything else I owned before. I had that car for 5 years and 120,000 miles.
The fact that I used 0 gas for my daily use brought the cars lifetime mpg to 163mpg!
Also, I learned the hard way that gas can go bad fairly quickly.

I can format and reinstall a linux distro in 10 minutes. I can update everything after that reinstall in 5 minutes.
On the same machine a windows update takes almost an hour. A format and reinstall can take several hours.
