The 1000 little interface stupidities is what gets me on Mac, like making “cut” part of the “paste” action. I’d get it if they had different terms (Ctrl+c=select, Ctrl+v =duplicate, Ctrl+optV=move) but they’re still called copy paste. Or the delete button on my keyboard being interpreted as page down. Or the enter key being used to rename a file. Or how every action just has to have an animation. It adds up to being just such a mess.

The command line is not the end all and be all of tech literacy. It’s one access point which doesn’t get used that much outside of copy-pasting sudo commands from the internet.
How is that any different from antagonizing someone because you don’t like them? I guess you could call it antagonizing someone because you think you won’t like them? Or because you think they might do something to make you not like them?
I never said not liking them was unjustified, just that the specific switch described isn’t easily justifiable.

Why, it was just old Mr. Miller the whole time. He was just pretending to be a demon for internet points.
I mean the rest of that paragraph conveys my opinion on that subject pretty well and this does nothing to counter that opinion.
Pizza is toast? Seems like something MAGA would say
It’s pretty good, goes well if you do a proper layer of egg and maybe a little carbohydrate coat.
This is actually quite tasty

1·2 days agoIf you’re talking about a commercial building or something, sure. I get the concept I suppose it just seems like it’s probably optimizing 2025 hardware against 2005 constraints when we’re talking about a single household. I’m unlikely to automate any part of my home in the near future but if I ever did I’d definitely want to look for some data (like, “gaming latency increases 20% with 10 smart devices”).

Linux@lemmy.ml•my reason why you should use KDE+Krohnkite instead of WMs
1·2 days agoWe’re talking about things that take ms to decide and act upon. I mean if you prefer it or you’re used to it that’s fine but for many people I’d argue the cost of change in either direction is higher than the aggregate savings in time.

1·2 days agoWhy? It’s plugged into mains, you don’t need to save 5 watts.
You do sound super cringe right now, so an example might help clarify what I think you’re trying to say.
There is a huge space for conversation that is both very appropriate and not creepy for a potential person of interest which would make you embarrassed if your mother read it. Especially depending on your mother. Some people have mothers who would critique the writing, others have mothers who might tell them to find Jesus. There are many many many valid reasons to send something different to a woman you wanted to date vs your mother without just jumping straight to dick pics.
And on the flip side, this is super passive aggressive douchebag behavior from the woman. I’m aware that some women perceive danger any time they look at any man and can conceptually understand things like “I didn’t feel comfortable not giving him some number in case he kills me” … that’s clearly not the case here. If I were afraid of a man, I would not attempt to do something that will only piss that man off. This is actively antagonizing someone you don’t like, not the behavior of someone who is scared.
That having been said I don’t actually get wtf is going on this meme and why Hitler is involved so maybe I’m missing something.

1·2 days agomy point is that if you went to a central authority like that you’re still likely to get corpo bullshit behavior. Because that’s how they talk.
With most Linux distros maybe you can avoid that, but you’re also dealing with a very small number of people with nothing on the line. So it’s comparing apples to trains.

News@lemmy.world•JD Vance repeats comments he wants wife Usha to convert to Christianity

This is a good summary of his life so you can know what you’re talking about. JD was already attending Yale and buds with peter thiel before she married him (that is, he was already an awful person). And she attended Yale too so she of all people should know how awful people who go to Yale are.

I literally said I don’t know why Hitler is involved. It seems a little bizarre.
