News@lemmy.world•Google will take away Search from schools that refuse "AI"
4·16 hours agoCould that be a reason to move away from googles platform then? When I was at school we didn’t really have any platforms. Just windows PCs with a domain login and software we need installed on the PCs. We all had GIMP.
Head of IT was a twat, but the other IT teacher was based - gave everyone a memory stick with Linux on it.

News@lemmy.world•Google will take away Search from schools that refuse "AI"
4·19 hours agoIs this a threat? Couldn’t they just use anything else? Also how do google know its a school? Its been a while since I was in school but almost none of us logged into google and we didn’t have google accounts.
I could see something like /20 being useful not so much for the number of addresses but to group things by use case, then /8 because you don’t care and it doesn’t matter. Also 10.0 is quicker to type and cleaner to look at than 192.168
I use the low numbers for statics, less to remember/communicate if its a 1/2 digit number instead of 3.
My DHCP is 100-something I dont remember because I don’t care about or respect the devices using DHCP.
Don’t forget /dev/mmcblk0p1 and /dev/nvme0n1p4how4fucking7long1must6these5get
I should install Debian to replace my current Ubuntu install at some point. Might move some services I run to a VM to reduce effort when reinstalling my OS. Then it’s just install steam and copy over my game backup folders. Plus with a VM I can easily move it to a proxmox mini PC if I ever get round to buying one.

0·1 day agoI don’t need a car here either. I can get anywhere in town in under 15 minutes, next town over in 25. Bus to the next town over is around 30-40 minutes, car during rush hour is up to 60.

Casual UK@feddit.uk•Have you ever heard them called anything else?English
0·1 day agoGenerally agree with all that, I really hate their card scheme. I don’t want to carry a card for each shop and have a massively bloated wallet for it and before anyone mentions an app, fuck off. I’m running calyx anyway and don’t want to hunt down an apk just to use a shop.
Aldi exists and doesn’t involve any of that crap.
Based. At least you bothered to turn up.

Not poked AI stuff in a while though, it was interesting from a technical perspective but overall not super useful to me.
Shockwaves can go through solid objects without destroying them and still harming people on the other side. I would want more clarity on the indestructibility of the hut.

0·2 days agoThen wtf is the point of moving to London? I know someone obsessed with it and yet they never seem to find jobs that pay much more than everyone else is on. +£150 a month pay, -£600 car, fuel, maintenance? Lol ok.
