Climate@slrpnk.net•Ocean temperatures in recent years (video)English3·2 days agoMany people will just throw up their hands and walk away but for me the only way I can accept what will happen is if I did my best (minus my handicaps, like living under capitalism, personal issues, etc etc) to stop it.

Climate@slrpnk.net•Ocean temperatures in recent years (video)English8·2 days agoYeah. And the reason they’re in charge is because we don’t have the requisite social consciousness / organisation / structure to put better people there. Changing culture and political systems takes a long time, which we don’t have.

Climate@slrpnk.net•Ocean temperatures in recent years (video)English112·2 days agoIt is very hard to live with.
Not all problems are solvable (this one is technically solvable but politically, it isn’t) and we need to accept whatever outcomes there are, despite our best efforts.

0·3 days agoOram also said he believed there was a connection between the list of names who signed the 2023 petition about remote working and the eventual firings in 2025. But Cordrey questioned whether this was really the case when 141 of 154 people who signed it were not fired.
Good luck son

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What happened to old info on the web and the ability to search it?English
7·6 days agoOh, I see!
Yeah the internet was a different world in 2001, hardly any of the websites from that time are still running and those that are will have rebuilt themselves multiple times over, often changing url structure in the process.

0·6 days agoWhen automated detection fails then it’s up to people to manually report it and mods / admins to manually apply the label.
I was talking about screening and reporting posts and you’ve moved to profile pics for some reason?

No need to abuse the poster about it.

A lot of people choose not to comment when they don’t understand what’s going on. Or if they comment, they ask questions.
There’s good reasons for that.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Has Piefed omitted some instances?English
1·8 days agolemmy.ml and dbzer0 are silenced on piefed.social, which makes their communities hard to find.
But if you go to their url directly you can join them like normal:

https://piefed.social/c/[email protected]
There is no hardcoded instance block list. There are some instances that are defederated from initially when an instance is first created but the instance admin is told about this when it happens and they can change it by clicking around in the admin area. 31·9 days agohttps://piefed.social/c/[email protected]/p/2190040/who-decides-what-you-see-on-the-fediverse-a-look-at-voting-patterns
PieFed instance admins can set a limit to how many votes each account can cast each day. I set the default value for this at a level that 99% of us will never reach.
This pissed off some of the 1% (or people who thought they were the 1% but weren’t) so they spent weeks spreading FUD about it.

46·11 days agoBlocking individual users is hopeless. You need to block entire communities and instances.
