All of what you said, but also, can ICE conduct traffic stops? Like only state and local police can enforce traffic laws in their own states and jurisdictions right? Maybe if it’s an interstate highway… but I would think they need a reason to pull you over and actually be able to show that they planned to enforce some traffic infraction. I doubt ICE writes speeding tickets, so I think they are breaking some law here.

Can they legally ask if you aren’t suspected of a crime? Surely, driving to work is not a crime.

But, really, capitalism always finds ways to milk more value for the capitalist out of an industry. It’s the whole enshitification thing. There may be periods at first where the excess value is spread around to incentivize various stakeholder adoption. But, once the competition is dead, the capitalist will milk as much profit for himself unless other stakeholders can defend their share through unions, regulation, or healthy competition.
