JubJubBird@sh.itjust.worksto memes@lemmy.world•I recently found an interesting animation of what our future might look like.0·13 days agoI watched it so you don’t have to. It’s about a guy who is locked in a Covid-19 individual isolation facility for 7 years (that does not make sense since after about 2 weeks of everyone being locked up all the sick people would be non contagious). In a fantasy dystopia where lizard people are real (there is no evidence they are. It’s a distracting conspiracy story) and people’s freedoms of movement and privacy are completely restricted (privacy has been worse than the movie for a long time. Ironically the guy loves his tablet. Movement restrictions would be too expensive though.) Not to mention that everyone is forced to eat insects and no other meats (you don’t need to eat insects. Meat consumption should be reduced bc. at least 14% of global greenhouse gas emissions are caused because of meat production according to a UN study). Also the rainforest is cut down because it emits CO2 at night(in reality this would release a lot of CO2 captured in the plants). Also only movies which are progressive are allowed ( also wasn’t true as can be seen by the very films existance). There is a bunch of other stuff as well I don’t have the time to get into. It’s not funny or ironic or enlightening. It just gets the reason behind a lot of things happening in the real world wrong and then exaggerates those which makes the thing its trying to say even more wrong.

JubJubBird@sh.itjust.worksto Steam Deck@sopuli.xyz•Once again, looking for PS2 game suggestions!5·16 days agoI played Shadow of the Colosses on my Potato PC with PCSX2. Took a bit of fiddling with the settings but it ran great afterwards. It’s one of my all time favourites. It’s an open world boss battler where you defeat giant climbable monsters. They are only vulnerable in specific spots though so in order defeat them you need to figure out how to reach those. The atmosphere is incredible though and the best part of it. If you want try it I highly recommend being hesitant to look up hints for this one since figuring out bosses is the most fun part.

Apparently owls an actually see UV light (source). So it seems possible to me that they benefit from being able to see how old other owls feathers are. Maybe to judge their health or something?
Maybe he’s just happy about not being alone anymore.
JubJubBird@sh.itjust.worksto A Boring Dystopia@lemmy.world•Charlie Kirk memorial showing a Palantir. edit: potentially wrong title deleted for now9·29 days agoIt’s a picture that was probably taken at the Army-Navy game. I couldn’t find the exact angle but this is what the screen and the surrounding architecture of the Northwest stadium looks like: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:FedEx_Field_Faith_Leaders_-_51176378567.jpg Very similar to the screen capture.
The Charlie Kirk memorial however was held at State Farm stadium which has screens looking like this: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Fiesta_Bowl_2019_Stadium.jpg and this: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Bell_Bank_partners_with_AZ_Cardinals.jpg

JubJubBird@sh.itjust.worksto News@lemmy.world•Jimmy Kimmel's show returning on Tuesday, ABC announces141·29 days agoIn what way is he a part of what problem?
Well yes. Those statistics are painting a picture of black people being much more likely to be murderers than white people because of their skin colour. It makes it seem like the skin colour is the issue. Since skin colour is inherited that would mean tendencies to murder people are also inherited. Which would form a basis on which racist actions are justified. All of this just because the graph oversimplifies. The actual factors that cause people to commit homicide are complex and include amongst others income, gender, upbringing, view of women and mental health issues. Those correlate with skin colour but require very different actions to solve. So pushing back against those oversimplified statistics and removing them is good since the takeaway’s from it are wrong.
I think you are right
With both parties working against the most of the american people and most of the media being in the pocket of some rich guy I don’t know how this is going to change other than rewriting the constitution to change how the american political system works. And being defeated in a war seems to be one of the only moments in time where this can happen. And as a non american I’d prefer if they duked it out amongst themselves. Pulling others into it seems unfair and the US might actually win. I’d much prefer if an alternative to war though since its one of the worst things that can happen to a person. I don’t know how it would look though. Please enlighten me me if you do.
JubJubBird@sh.itjust.worksto pics@lemmy.world•The chocolate hills of Bohol, Philippines. The grass eventually turns brown which give them the chocolate reference.5·1 month agoAs far as I understand it: There once was a layer of hardened clay that lay at the bottom of the sea. Over a long time coral reefs, mussels, fish bones, algea, sand and other detritus accumulated on top of it forming a layer of limestone. Then due to tectonic processes the region gets uplifted above sea level and dries up. The limestone layer hardens and becomes cracked due to tectonic movement (stuff like earthquakes). The softer clay layer doesn’t crack though. Then rain and rivers (over and underground) erode the split apart limestone chunks so the rigid blocks are reduced to conical hills until they disappear completely. The erosion sharply stops at the clay layer though, since unlike limestone, clay is largely waterproof and not as affected by the corrosive water. That’s why you have the last pieces of the limestone layer strewn about on a plain that is the clay layer. In the future there will only be a plain left here. Here’s a picture where this becomes apparent:
