I still like the concept, it’s just that 90% of the stuff that uses said concept is terrible. I mean, Isekai is only an initial premise, you need A LOT more to make a good anime.

Call me cynical but hearing druggies talk about their trips like it’s some transcendental super knowledge sounds just like a facebook aunt talking about the power of healing crystals to me or some such nonsense.

I not great with estimating sizes, and i often have trouble converting things from feet to meters on the spot. Last session i presented the players a quest to slay a sea monster. They cleverly decided to scout first with a familiar, and i described the creature and its size. I ended up exaggerating the size i bit too much and they’ve decided to avoid it until they’re higher level. So what was supposed to be a simple “monster of the week” type of encounter has now turned into a late game boss fight.

Mate, you’re not “one with the universe”, you were just high.

I fail to see the issue

I don’t get why some people think subs are so much better.

It’s not necessarily better, but it’s closer to the original material. Dubs often change various things in order to adapt it to their language, these changes are sometimes good, sometimes bad. Sure the translations are not perfect either, but they’re not limited by lip-syncing and therefore tend to be more accurate.

For example:

Say a character makes a pun that only works in japanese;

Even a very good dub, will have to replace this pun with something else that fits the lip-syncing and makes sense in their language.

But a sub can keep the original joke and have a little asterix at the corner explaining that word A and word B look similar in japanese or something like that.

Plus, those of us who don’t have english as their first language are often already used to subs, since not as many things are dubbed in our language, and when they are, it’s usually terrible.

That said, use whatever works best for you.
