I have been systematically banned one sub at a time for the most foolish and sensitive reasons. This all started happening in the last 6 months after having the same account for 14 years. Making a sexual comment in a sub that is based on sexuality, Making a comment about a fictional character’s looks got me banned for calling a fake character that never existed fat for body shaming. I have many more but I don’t want to write a book. I have been a member since 2011 and now I am just in lurker mode for informational purposes only.
I got banned for saying a meme in /r/news. Yet every major post a meme or joke is always top comment. It is a sick place.
I had a 7 year old account banned when someone asked me what Ezekiel’s famous “hung like donkeys” passage is all about in the bible. It’s Ezekiel calling his fellow Jews a bunch of slags for “whoring” about with enemy nations using vivid and over the top language. It was completely obvious this was the nature of the conversation and the point of the post. Banned, appeal rejected, told to stop asking about it.
Fuck them to be honest…
I guess the fat thing is because when calling someone fat, you are in principle body shaming everybody who is overweight. Maybe not for real, but by some peoples opinion.
But it’s all good, reddit is making a profit now, and everybody is happy. /s
Here on Lemmy we can have our little corner more in peace from mainstream sheep. Not that opinions can’t be strong here too, because they can. But I think on average Lemmy is a way better place than Reddit.
But then again, I haven’t used reddit for years. I had stopped using reddit way before I came here.I got IP banned some time ago so in an effort to not get my new account banned I used the official Reddit app and holy god it’s terrible. Ad infested and constantly pushing “achievements” in your face. First upvote achievement! Logged in 3 day streak!! 5 day streak!!! Earn badges!!! Look at mee!!! Look at meeeeee!!!
Urgh
They are trying to create dependency. For me I just get annoyed, and stop using such things.
As I recall that’s why I only used Twitter 1 week many years ago, it was so in your face about nothing all the time. How many banana lengths do you post there in a day? lol

Was a regular for almost 10 years. Was given “awards” galore. (As if I cared). Had a huge karma total. Permenately banned by an Admin - never a banned from a group. My offense was linking to a factual news article. Created a new account using a VPN and a different browser. Then one day when I wasn’t thinking used another browser that had their “kill” cookie in it. So banned again. So fuck them …swore them off. It’s been almost a year and I don’t miss it at all. How can you enjoy a social media platform if you must suck the ass of Admins and simply repeat only what they “like” regardless of the group you are in.
The Reddit I was a member of was the Reddit of 2005 - 2014, warts and all
Once VC / major shareholders came in the writing was on the wall. It was a shell of its former self by the time I was actually banned. Death by a thousand cuts. Certain topics sidelined, discussions less nuanced and more reactionary, the front page increasingly santised and “ad friendly”. No more unpredictable truth, just bland banality, puns, bots and the hyper-offended. I fought it for a while then realised, Reddit had already died long before and this was a clear chance to move on
Hey now, these losers need to feel like they’re in control of something outside of their mother’s basement! There’s some of them on here, but they can’t really censor posts/comments like they do on reddit. If the mods on one instance suck, you just switch to another one. People get offended too easily, so the choice is good.
You have a problem, but Reddit mods are helping you solve it. They know what’s best for you, and they clearly have your best interest at their heart. You’re on the right path. 👍 Just keep on commenting and let those bans pile up. When don’t want to use Reddit at all, the journey is complete, and you’re cured.
Yeah, the smart mods left during the API exodus. Anyone remaining is either a power tripping idiot that stayed, or an unqualified idiot given the position after the subreddit was forced open by reddit corp.
Good help is hard to find, good free help is even harder.
