It seems that YouTube is killing them all but I don’t know the technical details, via FreeTube I noticed, from this link (https://api.invidious.io/), that there are very few left and they require signup, and probably financial support from users.

I don’t know how, but the Android app LibreTube with instance passthrough enabled still works.

I have been using freetube with the “local api” setting for a long time without having problems but recently I notice that some videos are not loading.

          rewrites never end well.

NewPipe seems to acknowledge this: “Anyone who’s been in the FOSS community for long has come across at least one or two failed rewrites or refactors, and we don’t want to repeat such tragic history.”

It’s been a year and a half since they made their post. I’m fairly certain they plan to take as long as they need in order to make sure not to repeat other’s mistakes. Plenty of rewrites do end well. Once NewPipe finishes their rewrite, I have no doubt that it will be a bit bumpy for a while. It’s a drastic change, so issues are bound to crop up. I have faith in them.

Commented in a reddit fashion, and read the actual thing after commenting. Its justified in this case.

What do you use it for? You don’t get the privacy benefits when running it locally though right? Since your IP gives away your identity

Mainly to avoid using YouTube and the mess of that interface. All i need is a chronoligical feed of the channels I like. I’m not overly concerned that they can associate my IP with some viewing activity. As long as there are multiple people in the household using YouTube, it’s not a given they know who’s watching what. Also it’s much easier to have multiple invidious profiles and use them with Firefox containers than it is to have multiple YouTube accounts and switch between them.
