I think we should call future Diablos POE-clones.

A term “hack & slash” already exists since before 2000

Well yeah but we also call anything that’s like Doom a boomer shooter now. So you see, your argument is invalid * tips fedora, vanishes into Cheeto dust *

Eh, if Diablo 3, Immortal, and 4 didn’t exist…I could see it.

I just call them “wester-style RPGs”. It’s like the contrast to JRPGs.

we will continue to call your game an action rguelike, sir. you don’t get to add a twist to a genre and then be who’s the genre

    Wait, we don’t?

I mean, I was there when the discourse around Diablo 1 was “it’s not a real RPG, it’s mostly just Gauntlet with loot”, so “not ARPGs” and “Diablo-likes” have been in my lexicon from the ground floor.

Hack’n Slay. arpg feels more like an umbrella term for any RPG with an action combat system. It’s at least how we described it back during SNES times with games like Secret of Mana, opposed to games like Final Fantasy with their turn based combat.
