ultimately, what we need and have never had, is a candidate with a right-leaning cultural policy and a left-leaning economic policy, unfortunately, democracy favours the sitters-on-the-fence and nobody has ever been able to put the pedal down and get it done

Picking Badenoch is such an own goal, left leaning and moderate people don’t like her because of the far-right culture war rhetoric and she’s very unpopular with the Reform voters she’s suppose to win back.

To be fair, when would a Conservative leader ever appeal to someone who is “left-leaning”?

There’s plenty of conservative voters who are not raging racists. At least there used to be, since there isn’t much space for them in the party anymore they’ve gone to the Lib Dems for the most part

The vast majority of voters for both main parties are not racist.

I mean, Conservative members (who are generally more right-wing than the electorate) have literally just voted for a black woman as leader over a guy throwing all the red meat he possibly could at them.

Supporting Thatcher didn’t make the Tory membership suddenly stop being sexist, and choosing Badenoch isn’t going to stop them being racist. In both cases “except her, she’s one of the good ones” is all they need to say.

Human nature is a lot more complicated than you think. Badenoch as a black woman, has managed to be both racist and misogynistic, while not seeing any issue with that.

If a black woman can be racist then I guess the conservative electorate are okay with that. For now anyway, I still have my doubts about her long-term survival.

the big society tories make some mealy mouthed “commitments” to recognising there is a problem, like Cameron.

NB : I am not saying he did things well, I am saying he at least tried to pay lip service

I’m tempted to assume you’re a Labour equivalent of a blue MAGA, but I will assume you’re actually confused so I will clarify.

Several years ago, many postmasters were charged with criminal charges for stealing money that never existed, there was a bug in the Fujitsu software. Badenoch maintains to this day as far as I am aware that the postmasters DID steal the money and perfectly conspired to frame Fujitsu. Perhaps you are unaware of this incident or her position on it.

I’m not debating the definition of neoliberalism with someone who doesn’t characterize a pro-privitization “centrist” who extirpated all the labor advocates out of Labour as neoliberal and then goes all patronizing in a frankly asinine way, sorry.

I am also not debating if it is possible for one of the two major UK parties to regain power within a decade while Starmer’s Labour is already underwater in polls. You’re a VERY condescending person, you might want to work on that if you actually want people to engage with you.

No he won’t. They’ve got four seats, one of which doesn’t really count because his support is just a holdover from him being a conservative, that’s not exactly the makings of a political dynasty.

Also can Nigel Farage even be arsed?

I love her Fujitsu postal bug truther stance. It’s so wonderfully unhinged! Given how Starmer’s neolib Labour has decided they want to be the Truss/Sunak Tories on policy, she has a non-0 chance of becoming PM this decade!

I’ve read that comment five times and I have absolutely no idea what you’re trying to say.

I love her Fujitsu postal bug truther stance. It’s so wonderfully unhinged!

As far as I am aware she has never publicly made any statement about the post office scandal. I can imagine that if she did make a statement it would not be very coherent, but since I do not believe one has been made I’m not sure what you are referring to.

      Given how Starmer’s neolib Labour

You need to look up neoliberalism because you clearly don’t know what it is.

decided they want to be the Truss/Sunak Tories on policy

What? Seriously what the actual hell does that mean? Truss didn’t even have any policies she was only around for about 4 minutes. Meanwhile Sunak’s policies altered depending on who the last person he talked to was.

she has a non-0 chance of becoming PM this decade!

The conservatives lost the election because they dicked around with the economy, slashed social benefits, messed about during the worst cost of living crisis in a generation, and engaged in culture war nonsense rather than actually dealing with the very real crisis that was unfolding in front of them. She is literally more of the same, an extremist who is constantly going off on her hunt to eradicate “wokism”. Which is the evil boogeyman of the hard right.

So because she’s the worst example of the previous administration, she’s going to become PM. Are you drunk?

The only way the conservatives are going to get back into power is if they convince everyone that they’ve got rid of all of the extremist rubbish, and are now capable of acting like a real political party with adults. Electing an extremist is pretty much the opposite of doing that.
