It’s my second week drinking that Four Sisters Donut Shop Blend from Grocery Outlet, and… It’s not good.

It’s not completely awful, and it’s definitely functionally caffeinated, but without a paper filter it’s bitter.

But it’s not like other dark roasts that I’ve tried, and lacks that sweetness or medium roast’s fruity acidity that makes other grounds pleasant to drink.

Speaking of paper filters, I started using a mesh filter in my aeropress, and… The result tastes very similar to my French press…

I got a pack of two mesh filters: One 250 microns, the other 200 microns, and the 200 micron filter doesn’t let any fines through at all.

I am alternating days between the two, and I have to say the paper filter in the Aeropress makes a huge improvement in smoothness and taste.

Opened a Single Origin Costa Rica from whole foods. 26 Grind on Encore ESP, did both aeropress and V60. It’s a nice light roast, but nothing amazing.

Got the aeropress about a month ago and have not used anything since. Freaking love the results and how easy going it is! Next on the list is a new grinder, but unsure to go handgrinder or electrical.

Been using local coffee, labelled as French Roasted Coffee, it’s pretty nice.

There are some great hand grinders available now compared to a decade ago. To get a remotely acceptable electric grinder you would need to spend around $150 or so for something like the Baratza Encore. For that same money you can get a really good hand grinder from 1zpresso or Kingrind which will produce more consistent grinds and fairly quickly.

Heating up around here so I’m onto to cold brew. Basically a fine mesh strainer cup in a jar that I let sit overnight. 40 grams lasts 2 days.

Give it a good shake when I make it. Roughly 18 hours steep then it’s good to go the next day, nice and cold out of the fridge.

If I’m fasting I have it with just an ice block, but if I’m not ill have it with oat milk in a tall glass, maybe 80 coffee, 20 oat milk. good shit!

There’s supposed to be a heat wave here next week, so I might have to start my own experiment with cold brew too…

I just opened a bag of washed light roast Arabica Typica from Dalat, Veitnam. Used a V60 to brew it and a Fellow Opus to grind it.

Quite nice. Floral and fruity not bitterness or excess sourness. Very happy considering the relatively low cost.

Espresso using some older beans. Tastes alright. Made using a Z1presso grinder (145 grind setting), and a 9barista stove top espresso machine :)

Also recently bought a shaker for N2 cartridges to make nitro-brew at home. Really good when it gets hot outside.
