Just 17% of respondents in the new poll approved of his handling of the cost of living - the top issue Americans say will determine how they vote in the November 3 midterm elections, when Trump’s Republicans are defending narrow congressional majorities.
Dissatisfaction among Republicans on the subject has been growing since Trump launched the war on Iran in February that has pushed gasoline and diesel prices sharply higher. Now for the first time, Republicans who disapprove of Trump’s handling of the cost of living outnumber those who give him a thumbs up - 51% to 44%.
He’s losing his base.

Some are not calling themselves Republicans anymore. 32% approval is about 4% of his base that’s gone away. Most elections are decided by about 2-4%

No, his base is largely intact, he’s losing independents that couldn’t bring themselves to wear the band’s merch to the show, and his base are slinking back into the shadows until there’s an official call from Trump for violence again. The problem is they’re so disenchanted and gas is so expensive that there will be no repeat of Jan 6th, so it’s effectively over as far as coups go. All they have left are grand displays of terror, the thrashings of a failing ideology. They aren’t leaving the base, though. There will always be this 30-35 percent that’s irredeemable bigots.
