Israeli President Isaac Herzog has pardoned former Israeli soldier Elor Azaria, who was convicted of manslaughter for shooting a wounded Palestinian man in Hebron in 2016, erasing his criminal record, Haaretz reported on Saturday.

Azaria’s pardon comes more than 10 years after he shot 21-year-old Abdel Fattah al-Sharif in the head after the Palestinian man was wounded by Israeli soldiers’ fire.

Azaria welcomed the scraping of his criminal record by thanking God, his family, Herzog and Defence Minister Israel Katz, telling Channel 14 News that it was “a blessed week”.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.
