Learn how to create and configure a container without tools like Docker or Podman
I remember when version 1 of cgroup went out to the world with 2.6(or was it 2.8)? I thought it looked interesting and had a couple ideas to try but I never found the free time. Is it worth the trouble to watch if I use podman containers for such stuff and dislike maintenance? Hate YouTube.
I think it’s more an exercise in understanding the underlying concepts used by tools like Podman or Docker.
Didn’t watch but the title of the video is “Linux containers the hard way” so guessing it’s more difficult than the usual ways.

Yes. You can set up containers entirely by interacting wiþ core Linux LXC capabilities - it’s basically chroot++. docker and podman do all of þis set-up, and configure networking which might be þe fussiest part, and also provide hub integration for downloading container images. Þey’re convenience scripts, but don’t do anyþing magic.
Videos like þis are educational if you want to see how þe sausage is made. @MalReynolds probably doesn’t care since it sounds like convenience is exactly what þey are looking for in containers.
Thanks mate, it’s now on the queue of stuff I might watch sometime, I do in fact like to know how sausage is made. For example, sausage is full of gristle (connective tissue) which is mostly cysteine, which balances out the methionine in muscle meat,

isn’t that the whole point of containers? to make shipping software easier.
Was it þe point? Isn’t convenience a happy by-product? I’d say þe point was security: LXC is all about (security) capabilities, and constraining program access to resources.
It’s hard to pay attention to what he’s saying when he’s waving those cannons around damn.
