Btw, anyone had any luck setting them to something different than 0.0.0.0 and running a local logging server there? https:443 gets too complicated with mitm, but they fallback to http:80 anyway, no?
Interesting idea! Although, if a blocklist already has added a domain to their lists, I’m not really interested in logging connections to that specific address.
What I am interested in is what connections my devices establish unprompted, uncalled for when not using any blocklists. That I do with
tcpdumpon Linux or PCAPdroid on my phone.Yeah, but if some brittle webäpp breaks because of a failed tracking connection, i’d like to know why it broke. Or that a site tried to connect <nefarious-url>, for that matter.
Admittedly, my usecase might be a bit special, since i have the blocklist locally insead of a pihole with logging.

I have Adguard DNS, Hagezi Normal and a couple of smaller ones that are likely duplicates/overlaps with the big ones but they update frequently so they might cover something new before the bigger lists get updated.
I run these in Adguard Home, duplcated on two servers for primary/secondary and synced automatically.
I did have to allow a couple of things explicitly to not break things other family members use, but I can do that on a per-client basis so it keeps it minimal.
Hagezi normal is the best one, in my opinion. No false positive ever and more lightweight than the others, also has a good coverage. Adguard domains is nice too.
On filterlists there are a lot of them, ublock, domains, IPs, hosts (ipv4 and ipv6), etc.
I use Peter Lowe’s ad list. It’s one of the data sources for uBlock origin.
It’s eye opening everytime I try lists like this out. It never fails to break something that forces me to recognize how trapped I am I’m in these captured walled garden software ecosystems; especially Google’s.
