Their geography makes it a landlocked nation (surrounded by the alps), as they even survived both world wars without being involved in them. They did not partake in both Desert Storm & the War on Terror, I mean they have a military but managed to have a form of assertion without using power projection or nuclear deterrance, although they don’t spend a lot of their money on the military (which is something the US does a lot).
Why can’t the USA be like Switzerland in terms of maintaining neutrality? They have heaps of bunkers though as its backed by legislation into making it a standard that homes should be adajcent to one. It would be like legally mandating that EVERYONE in the entire US should have a fallout shelter. Their views on the draft are different from Americans (there’s a difference between national defense & fighting for oligarchs).

Because, to my knowledge, Switzerland never aspired to be an empire and doesn’t have a stupid “manifest destiny” which makes them see themselves as the sole beacon of civilization in the world.
Thanks to those 2 things and others, USA has been brute forcing their wants against other countries the world over for 100+ years.
I think because they are greedy and egocentric bunch that truly believe the world revolves around them and everyone (should) share their values and opinions.
Because Switzerland isn’t a settler colony of the most brutal globe spanning empire in the history of the world built in genocide and slavery?
Are you looking for the “Ask Lemmy” community? I think this is the one for stuff like “I am a freelance Walrus Shepherd who lives on the Moon. Ask me anything”.
Switzerland is a buffer between regional powers, neither of those wanted Switzerland to join the other and the Swiss knew they wouldn’t exist if they opposed either.
The US has never been in that position.
