We actually do upgrade it to syncrude in Alberta, and some all the way to fuel. Getting it out of the ground, when it’s semi-frozen into sand, is also no small feat.
You can shit on Alberta for a lot of things, but “bad at chemistry” isn’t one of them.
We don’t sell oil, we sell a bitumen sludge that needs to be refined in Texas because no one in Alberta went past grade 9 science class.
