Time isnt metric. They tried metric time, everyone hated it. This is likely because the existing clocks are a dozenal system which is far superior to metric’s base10.
If an alien civilization had what we would call base 5 counting as standard, would they still call it base 10 if they never had more words for digits than zero to four?
They would use a base 10 system and we would use a base 20.
We have words for numbers that are outside of 0-9 they probably would too
