According to several Western European researchers, the operation involved the use of assassination, psychological warfare, and false flag operations to delegitimize left-wing parties in Western European countries and to support anti-communist militias and right-wing terrorism who tortured communists and assassinated them, such as Mozambican resistance leader Eduardo Mondlane in 1969.[5][6][7][8][a] The United States Department of State rejected the view that they supported terrorists and maintains that the operation served only to resist a potential invasion of Western European countries by the Soviet Union.[9]

So operation Condor for Western Europe?

Edit: nope, Operation Condor actually happened, Gladio apparently didn’t leave the planning stage.

NATO is a curse. Its an imperialist capitalist organization, not a defense org and should be dissolved.

Yeah, at this point I’m on board with nato dissolving, and a new mutual aid organization being built in its place

Buts that’s never been part of what NATO is. It’s always been a security alliance first and foremost with it’s primary focus being on combatting the soviet union and it’s allies in Europe for a large portion of it’s existence.

It’s always been a part of the concept of nato, security/mutual aid. But it’s incredibly corrupt

Nato has never done any of what I would call mutual aid. Done lots of security work and collaboration but that isn’t mutual aid, that’s a defensive alliance between nation states.

Again the sole purpose of NATO upon it’s founding was a military alliance against the soviet union and it has never really grown past this role even after the collapse of the union.

      TIL Operation Gladio

NATO is a curse. Its an imperialist capitalist organization, not a defense org and should be dissolved.

You are spreading nonsensical info without any context.

That Operation was a contigency plan against a possible USSR incursion in Western Europe, like what did happen in Eastern-Europe . Also ask those former Sovjet) States how horrible the Sovjet regime was. They deported millions.

      TIL? No, you did not.

Wow now look who is behaving like a campist

You think soviet union will invade western europe just after loosing 27 million people in WW2? lol.

Here’s the truth: Soviet Union infact offered to join NATO when it was formed but was rejected because USA and NATO needs a permanent boogeyman to keep selling weapons to its members. NATO rejected peaceful existence with USSR which then led to formation of warsaw pact.

Now operation gladio was also part of suppressing communist ideas illegally even according to liberal standards, tell me what part of contingency is to assassinate communists, plan coups and backing far right militias? I am not surprised by this tho, this is everything liberalism has ever stood for afterall. Why should I ask anything to former soviet states whose interest are obviously in falsifying and dissing their soviet past? Not saying soviet union was perfect but it was far better for the world than whatever the western europe and america is.
