So my (F15) boyfriend (M16) Avery and I have only been dating for like a few weeks but we have been friends for almost 3 years, since he was 14 and I was 13.
Now, I usually expect this from him, to not respond to my texts, as that’s what he did even when we were friends, only texting sometimes or when it was important.
For example, yesterday he made plans for us to hang out today, but he cancelled on me right when I was about to go there, saying he suddenly didn’t feel like it. I was fine with it, but then I asked if he was alright and such and what was wrong, and he didn’t respond, but it did show that he saw it.
I’m trying to be fine with it, but my insecurities are making me think this is somehow my fault.
A few pieces of advice:
-
Get off of online social networks. Online social networks are bad for your still developing brain. This is not a criticism of you, only that you are a teenager and have a teenagers brain, and that there is a lot of really good psychological evidence coming out showing that being active in online social networks is really bad for you. I recommend that you delete all of your accounts and just enjoy being a teenager. (I swear, after a few weeks you really won’t miss it as much as you think you might.)
-
You aren’t over reacting. You are a teenager dating a teenager. If he’s not reacting to your texts we quickly as you like, that cool. So it’s not working out. Break up with him. It’s not going to get better. You really can still be friends at this point, and odds are your relationship probably wasn’t going to survive the post-high school-to-college distance anyway. Shrug it off, go buy a cute shirt for yourself and just enjoy being a teenager.
