The short-eared owl was found on the Noble Patriot platform 180 miles (290km) off Shetland. Superb!

    My mum had multiple birds stay with her in the sick bay on the platform awaiting being shipped back to dry land.

    One in particular had repeated take off attempts in the corridors, trying to build enough speed charging headlong down them. Made things interesting for the workers.

    This article included a nice map so you could get an idea how far away from land it was. It also sounded like they followed up (other articles just paraphrased the Facebook posts) and the owl’s recovery was successful.

    I’m still mildly in shock how small they are! The roundness and bold patterns had me picturing something a little bigger, but between these pics and getting to see one in person (though still from a distance) this last weekend, I see them in a bit of a different way now. Still such a great owl though!
