Hello All,

I’ve had a bit of a problem organizing my stuff. When I put something into a drawer, it’s like the object permanently vanishes.

Sometimes there are just too many subcategories, or too many details among items can put me in a bit of an analysis paralysis.

Any organizational methods that help y’all out with this?

My rule of thumb is to try to default to keeping things close to where they’ll be used. That way there’s less distraction/friction/cognitive overhead. It isn’t really an organizational system so much as a principle/tiebreaker-- put things as near point of use as practically and conveniently possible.

Drawers-- especially ‘junk drawers’- tend to become black holes for me too. Another good rule of thumb for drawers is to try to only keep one type of thing in a drawer.

I’m curious about what sorts of high-number, high-category items you’re struggling with. Plastic organization boxes can be nice. Since they’re clear you can see the stuff/it doesn’t disappear, and you can arrange things in satisfying rows and columns. https://www.amazon.com/Organizer-Containers-Adjustable-Dividers-Stickers/dp/B09W2MFTVF

I hang all of my clothes (I have two hanging bags one for matched and one for unmatched socks). Keep all of screw drivers in a flower pot just out (they are labeled on the back for type). Same for cooking utensils. Got rid of my cabinet doors.

Drawers are for nearby use only. Silverware has been the same drawer for decades it can stay. Desk drawer keeps usbs for computers I work on at desk. The misc drawer is a dark place, where I try to keep just pencils, pens, label maker and trash bags. The temptation is strong though lol
