As title. Ohio is a bleak, futureless shithole in a fascist empire that treats it like a frack-water dumping ground. Healthcare access is terrible, higher education has collapsed, industry has long fled. Christians and Fascists dominate basically every lever of power. Despite best efforts, I haven’t been able to leave, won’t be an option in the foreseeable future. Why should I bother getting up tomorrow?

Come to a good city that hasn’t fallen to the fascists. Here in Columbus, we’re fairly insulated from the psychopaths who don’t care who they hurt. That stuff doesn’t fly here. We actually have some compassion for our neighbors here.

Are you near Kent? Folks helping folks is what gets me up in the morning. But some days are easier than others.

I’m within an hour of Kent. I used to be a humanist too but watching people in the rustbelt’s obsession with caging children (and everyone else) kinda cured me of that. I pretty much just don’t want to have anything to do with this culture anymore, all there is here is a bunch of falling, corpo gutted cities and walmart towns (and prisons!). Don’t get me wrong, I like the culture in the cities, but the cities are ultimately at the mercy of fascists and the failed, gutted industries. Ohio would be a better place if the mass exodus continues unabated and we gave the land back.

Leave. Just pick up and go. It doesn’t take effort. They don’t need you there. If you aren’t willing to work to make any of those things you complain about better, then leave. Go some place that fits your definition of a “better place” where someone else has already put in the hard work for you so you can reap the rewards. Or maybe adjust your attitude because you probably won’t be happy anywhere.

It seems they did and gave you a response worthy of what you chose to share. Dumping your depressed state into a post with vague sentiments of suicide, then trying to share that venom to respondents leads to the same thing. Good on them for taking the shortcut, IMO.

How about you seek some actual help instead of burning yourself up in what you think is heroic martyrdom for a family member that will only lead you further down this path without support and refreshment for yourself? Nobody will laud you to glory after they pass, and you will continue to do yourself and anyone who interacts with you a great disservice and harm.

At any other time I would say hey come to my state but I have been unemployed for a year now so can’t see telling people to root themselves up with the idea they will find something.

Locate the nearest brewery/winery/distillery and get acquainted with their menu. It’s gonna be a long couple of years.
