I did not learn what they were recently, because unfortunately I was raised on 4chan. Once you have a certain part of your brain plugged into that shithole website, certain bits of information will just make themselves available to you through the ether. You absorb information by osmosis (Jones). I wish I couldn’t. Skin me alive.

Even though it is a well written, informative and comprehensive article, I still feel like I am losing braincells reading it. It is so incredibly stupid what some humans stoop to.

Same. At one point I found myself skimming words without taking them in and I had to stop.

I did learn one important thing from all of this though - there are more fractures and divisions among the far right than there appears. Ever-smaller factions fighting amongst each other is better than one coherent group fighting the rest of us.

Fuck, we invent some useless shit. I wonder what’ll be around in 50 years? Tea cosy wars? A disdain for people with attached ear lobes? A religion that proclaims the colour yellow to be heresy?

Fuentes himself was almost murdered last December by a guy who killed three other people and two dogs that day and ended up getting killed by the police. He went there specifically for Fuentes but I don’t think it was some foot soldier following orders. No idea if the guy was on the left but I kinda don’t really think he was.

Pepe is too general to be taken over by a group as a symbol. I hate when ppl just concede Pepe away like that. Fuck those normies (and ofc nazis as well).

Akin to “oh no, that nazi is eating freedom fries, has a USA tattoo, and is wearing a shirt - all of those things separately are now the undisputed universal symbols of Nazism!!”.

Seriously, people saying that about pepe here reminds me of conservatives saying video games are the problem. It’s like come on, I don’t think the 19 year old woman streaming stardew valley on twitch to 12 people and posting okayge in chat even knows what a 4chan is lol

Which dweeb was showing off his pin right before he was punched in the face? Also I will note I get them for free since I bought a great coat and an entrenchment tool and they just kinda wanted them gone.

If anyone’s feeling pretty hopeless about finding this out for the first time, I recommend this documentary about the cartoon frog’s creator sueing Alex Jones and trying to take back his ownership over Pepe from the white power weirdos. It’s very uplifting and the artist is a pretty likable guy.

So the one thing about fascism, especially in its late stages, is that it tends to eat itself alive. When they run out of enemies, they create enemies.

While I agree fascist tend to indulge in self harm via factionalism, I don’t think this is really that, nor is it late stage. We’re approaching the stage where the fascist shed their traditional conservative mask and start enforcing their real ideology over the traditional conservative party.

People forget that 4 years before the Nazi started their purge on greater German society during Kristallnacht they first purged and consolidated power in their own house during the night of the long knives.

        This is it.

The “true believers” in neoliberal conservative values are useful to make the rightward march to increasingly reactionary politics seem proper and reasonable to anyone who isn’t paying attention.

But when shit is about to go down those same talking heads are a liability if they aren’t cool with barely contained barbarism.

Maybe, but authoritarian regimes do often purge their ranks, and it doesn’t always mean anything significant is going down.

    I KNOW RIGHT???

And people were like “oh the killer carved UWU what’s this and Helldivers 2 memes on his bullets, that’s common in Groyper circles”

Bro are you talking aboutttttt, what do you mean???
I just find it absurd how these niche-in-a-niche-in-a-niche communities develop and how seemingly random bits of internet culture turn into dogwhistles inside, it reaches a point where I’m just like dude, our lizard brains can’t handle the internet. We just weren’t wired to work like this, there’s no way

They’re just losers who live online trying to outdo each other to hold the most extreme view points possible so they can stand out in their depressing little discord shitholes. It’s such a depressing reality I can’t even imagine it. No wonder they become mass shooters.

You’re also describing lemmy, except for the mass shooter part… for now. With the stochastic terrorism that dominates certain discussions (Gaza, Luigi, etc) it’s only a matter of time.

I’ve never felt the need to shift my opinions to please the crowd on lemmy. I mean if someone is really deep in certain communities that could happen, but that’s the loser part. Online chat groups shouldn’t become a focus of your identity.

Lemmy isn’t in the same realm as Groypers or neo-nazi cliques or any of that nonsense. Really?
