Straight off the back of Civ 3 we’ve now got Civ 4!

Sid Meier’s Civilization IV builds upon the Civilization games that came before it in ways that elevated the series’ strategic turn-based gameplay to a whole new level. Civ IV was the first entry to feature Religions that can spread across the map and meaningfully impact the population, and introduced Great People with unique abilities to unlock free techs, start Golden Ages, or increase a City’s output.

Civ IV launched with 18 playable civilizations, eight of which had multiple leaders for players to choose from. Players can lead France as either Louis XIV or Napoleon, and America as Roosevelt or Washington, for example. Starting in the year 4000 BC, players guide their chosen civilization through history and attempt to satisfy one of six victory conditions before the game ends in the year 2050.

Each civilization and leader combo has different strengths and weaknesses that make them better suited to one or more of the six possible paths to victory. These include Conquest, Cultural, Diplomatic, Domination, and Space Race.

Sid Meier’s Civilization IV: The Complete Edition includes Civilization IV, plus all three expansions: Warlords, Beyond the Sword, and Colonization.

For those not using Prime (because forget Amazon), it’s 80% off on Gog, and is worth $7.18 USD when combined with Civ III Complete.

Oh, I do not have access to this offer currently but would love to re-live some teenage nostalgia. If anyone has access to this code but they don’t need it I would love to use it instead! :)

Definitely my favourite of the series. I think the hex grid and single unit per tile of later games encourages more strategic thinkingnwith combat, but 4 offers the best overall version of Civ. Later games add more and more systems on top of the basic formula and I think they detract from the overall experience

Definite recommend, and if I hadn’t had this since release, I would be getting it now!

Plus the amount of mods is insane.
