Perfect summation. Most of our presidents (Maybe excluding Bush Jr) were eloquent speakers, with good writers helping them along. Maybe speaking over the heads, at times, of our under-educated citizens. Perhaps this is the reason our current “leader” resonates so well with some of our country’s population.
Sometimes I wonder if Trump being president is just a CIA psyop to create a plausible narrative around why the U.S. had no say in abandoning democracy. It definitely makes W.'s legacy look not so bad by comparison.
I guess at least W. had the decency to wait until we were distracted and riled up about 9/11 before dragging us into a random war over oil resources. Especially right after Trump allowing Chevron to set up shop in the country, it seems kind of on the nose.
It’s sad though. I remember as a kid hearing about Mitterrand exchanging quotes in Latin with Castro and that was inspiring. Kid me thought, yeah, these are important people with big brains, it makes sense that they are in charge. Even later when I was a young adult, hearing about Chirac giving interviews in English on CNN, because of course he can speak English fluently unlike the plebs, that was something to be impressed and proud of.
Shit, even Macron, for all my loathing of what he represents, is a bright mind.
I don’t understand these people who don’t want inspirational leaders. I guess it’s the crab mentality? It’s fucking embarrassing to watch though.
“I think war is a dangerous place.”
“I was trying to escape. Obviously, it didn’t work.”
“You teach a child to read, and he or her will be able to pass a literacy test.”
“Rarely is the question asked: Is our children learning?”
“Your’re working hard, to put food on your family.”
“If you want the facts, it’s a size ten shoe that he threw.”
“They misunderestimated me.”

Come on Bush Jr was a true poet.
