I’ve been trying to move back to reddit but their automated systems have gotten really bad recently it seems, made a new account on there and tried to post for the first time, immediately got auto suspended by “reddit’s filters” it said on the post. Didn’t violate any rules or anything, posted in a PC subreddit asking about hardware recommendations, no idea how that warrants an immediate suspension…
No messages or anything came with it otherwise, found out later on in the day that that happened, tried to go to the support page and appeal the suspension, days and weeks later nothing, no idea what to do. Tried again and still nothing right now.
Anyway to resolve this? If not then where else should I go and consider for general forums and stuff? Anything active and populated? And if at all possible something non toxic and decent on privacy for the sake of my mental health. Not super tech savvy or anything (but am somewhat privacy conscious) so please bear with me for not knowing what else is out there.
Lemmy is unfortunately not the best place for me and still too small to find what I need, I’ve also not had the best luck on here with many unhelpful and toxic encounters with the users (some even targeted me and tried to false report me just because I did something they didn’t like personally…), far more then any other platform I’ve been on, I’ve tried to make due with it but it’s just not working out for me on several fronts, it’s just not for me, I don’t feel welcomed here at all.
Sounds like nobody wants you. 🤷🏻♂️ Sorry.
As far as I know, Lemmy/Piefed/Mbin is the biggest alternative to Reddit, so if it’s too small for you, there may not be a good alternative.
If you do want to stick it out, I’d recommend being liberal with blocking users you don’t want to see. I think there are a lot of good people here.
Damn, that’s not good…
What about Quora or whatever else? Those are more “mainstream” overall, so hopefully big enough to be active and varied in content and users, though I don’t hear anything about it at all but I always see them pop up in search results. Are they any good?
I definitely have considered and done that before, I am trying to ignore the toxic users as best as possible but again because this place is still so small and the culture here seems overwhelmingly more judgemental then what I’m usually used to, it kinda doesn’t do anything, even users that I think seem nice either barely engage or sometimes when they do they end up all of the sudden turning hostile over something, and they never say what exactly ticked them off, so I end up confused and put off and have to constantly delete my posts and comments to avoid the unwanted attention and drama, no idea why people are always like this on forums, and on lemmy especially it’s super difficult to avoid and a lot more apparent. Again at least for me this has been the case.
Even then some are so irrationally pissed off they try to target and harass me out of nowhere days or weeks later after something I completely forgot about, I’ve never dealt with something like this anywhere else before, again this place is just not for me, it’s too judgemental and hostile for my comfort and mental health, the few good people around are too few and far in between to outweigh the majority, have met a few good people here but again there’s just not that many of them around and they usually are more reserved so most of the people that engage with me are the more toxic ones, those ones seem far more active sadly. At least that’s been my experience, no idea how exactly to avoid any of that without just lurking and never posting or engaging with anything.
I’m not familiar with Quora or other specific alternatives - when I said Lemmy is the biggest alternative, that’s just based on what I’ve heard elsewhere, such as the “Reddit Alternatives” subreddit.
I can’t say I’ve experienced anything as bad as that kind of harassment - sorry to hear that. One thing you could consider is making a new account on beehaw.org - it’s Lemmy as well but with the goal of a safe, friendly environment, and they do a lot of deferating and moderation to keep it that way. So it would be a “smaller” Lemmy experience, but maybe a more pleasant one.
Ah, alright I see. I really hope someone who knows more about this can chime in then, I really need that right now cause like you’ve said people only seem to recommend lemmy if anything and nothing else, even though it’s still far too small to be a full replacement for reddit.
They’re still around? Nearly forgot about them. Though last I checked there was a ton of drama around them, they were using a super old version of lemmy, and the communities they offer are limited and specific only, nothing general and no way to create communities yourself last I checked.
Also if they’re an even smaller experience then the rest of lemmy is, then that might be completely unusable for me, I struggle to find any answers on here as it is due to a lack of varied experiences and content with the small userbase. I’ll still check it out though and see while I wait for others to (hopefully) chime in, hopefully it’s gotten better these days, thank you for the suggestion.
A few things
Consider not deleting your posts, especially the ones asking for help, that’s considered bad practice: https://lemmy.dbzer0.com/modlog?userId=19680232
Consider https://piefed.social/ , it has actual blocking, so users you block won’t see your comments or posts
Also please report toxic comments, mods usually take action fast, and that allows to ban toxic users rather than lose content
Well I have my reasons, besides not all of my posts even get any replies or the replies are either unfriendly and snarky or sometimes go completely off topic and onto something else so I don’t see why it’s such a big deal here, again most of my experiences here sadly hasn’t been good, nothings being “lost” with my posts, seriously I’m not posting anything crazy, your not missing out on anything, like, at all…
Wait what? Does that mean blocking someone on here doesn’t really do much if they wanna stalk me? And again these platforms are still a little too small, pretty difficult to find what I need as it is on here so I want something a little more mainstream if possible, though so far nobody here seems to know of anything else and I can’t go back to reddit because of the automated suspension and their appeals system doing nothing to resolve that.
I do report toxic comments, but it’s 50/50 weather or not anything happens.
This post summarizes the issue with removing help posts: https://lemmy.dbzer0.com/post/47387855
Blocking on Lemmy works the same way it used to work on Reddit. It changed on Reddit since then: https://lemmy.world/post/27359094
If mods don’t act, you can document their inaction on [email protected]
Then I guess would something like discord be a better fit for me for seeking help and discussions? Seeing as lemmy’s whole “privacy” thing isn’t what I thought it was, I don’t wanna just put myself out there permanently with each and every post, I really don’t like the judgemental tone of things here at all, I had much better luck on reddit years ago when it still functioned for me, so could you recommend anything else for me to look into? Or no?
Regardless, thx.
Reddit has enshitified and has almost no value. When they implement iris scanning as a requirement for an account, that will be the end and I imagine most people will move to lemy.
Reddit is run by fascist trump supporting goons.
I feel like it shouldn’t be very difficult to get along on Lemmy - assuming you’re not simping for fascism, for example.
Some very active niche communities never really took off on Reddit though. For example, the DECA game “Realm of the Mad God” - the subreddit didn’t particularly add to the community, you’d find more engagement on the game’s Discord. So maybe there’s a different platform more tuned to your niche interest.
