Decided to book some nights down near the peninsula for the long weekend. There is a dinosaur park and children’s farms that should keep the boys busy.

It’s meant to be cold and wet, so no big adventures, but its a part of Melbourne so far away we wouldn’t bother going down there otherwise because it wouldn’t be worth the time

Sometimes we play the unsolved case files games in which the players are given a murder case and a series of questions to answer. The answers for each step are in sealed envelopes and you cannot proceed without correctly identifying each clue. A file folder on each suspect is included, along with maps and newspaper clippings. We might spend weeks on it and get nowhere.

It can be frustrating, however, they are enlightening to the fact that in order to succeed, a patient and detail oriented mindset can win the day.

Sox is randomly jumping at things right now and has had much more of an appetite than usual today. I’m chalking it up to boredom/attention-seeking.

Oooor maybe we will look back on today and go “the cats knew about the earthquake that would devastate us all, but they had no way to tell us as it was wrecking their own minds”.

Melbcat’s test results are good so I’m not sure why she’s still sooky and eating like a horse? She’s definitely off about something.

Her kidneys are a little bit worse though 😞 Makes sense. During the uti I’ve been prioritising hydrating wet food consumption, so have been leaving out the phosphate binder that puts her off it. Maybe I’ll start trying to reintroduce it.

I’m glad she’s eating well though. She’s cuddled up with me and very cute.

Thanks everyone for the encouragement today!

    blathering

I’m afraid to say I only read two papers and wrote down about two lines of notes but the upshot is my brain seemed to be doing some reorganising/processing and I didn’t leave uni feeling sick and worthless like all the other times I didn’t get stuff done. That’s helpful because the avoidance is definitely coming from an emotional place…

… And I managed to have a really good psych session today which, while intense, helped me get through the “everything feels like shit”, “ADHD executive function hacks aren’t helping” part and through to reframing things with a trauma lens (I had an academically hardcore schooling experience that ended badly and this has brought up a lot more of those subsumed thought patterns than I thought).

Like physically I feel better; I feel heard and things make sense and maybe I can try something different to get through all this. Rather than go “I have no executive function to walk into a crowd of people who will torture me and then push me off a cliff. Maybe if I break it down into steps it will help” and wonder why it’s not working…

One thing I’ve decided to allow myself until I finish this is splurging on whatever I want with food. If eating lunch out daily, or getting all the smoked salmon, or getting TWO pizzas helps fill the tank, I have my full permission.

Anyway I’m going to go buy some smoked salmon now and see what goodies are available at the Nice Woolies while I’m here.

I went to make a cup of tea and my favourite mug just went ‘crack’ right through when I poured the boiling water in. And then the water was coming out the bottom somewhere.

It’s probably 20 years old. Very sad. I have a million mugs (I think they breed in the cupboard) but only a handful of ‘good’ ones which are my go-tos for tea.

Today I got no work done. Spent ages trying to find somewhere to sit and there was not really any spaces in any of the libraries around with unoccupied plugs. Then I was supposed to meet with a friend at 11 and they arrived at 12:30. I could’ve found somewhere to sit and asked them to join me, but I just wanted to go home at that point. Came down with a massive headache.

At least I got 20,000 steps in. Now I shall keep warm and attempt the work I wanted to do. There’s always tomorrow after all.

I could’ve just sat down and studied - that’s what we were there for - but I couldn’t find a spot in the area we were supposed to meet. If I had just gone myself to the area I was going to go in, it would’ve been fine.

Next time when they are a bit late go to your work area , send them a message telling them where you are, and say you will wait for them there

If they complain tell them your time is valuable. ( and it really is , it’s not just words )

I just realised I did end up going to my work area, got set up, and then I had to go out and get them because I was sitting in a ID card required space that they couldn’t enter.

But yeah, next time, I will go somewhere they can enter.

It’s actually a different “friend” unfortunately. I’ve had to set boundaries with them because they were ruminating about a problem and bringing me down. Today they brought up that problem, despite me communicating to them that constantly bringing up a problem and pretty much trauma dumping on me was a problem. So I am done with them I think.

The other late friend has improved quite a bit.

I leave the thread for a day or so to read a book I got obsessed with (Drift by C J Turner) and next thing people are talking in German about their pets and Tone’s assaulted in the supermarket! Jesus Christ on a bicycle!
