I recently found the app Sink It for Reddit. It’s a Safari extension for iOS Safari that removes the popups that ask you to download and use the app.

Fucking finally, I had enough of their app that doesn’t respect my privacy. Now I can use private browsing as much as I want to.

I don’t know if it unlocks VPN block messages though

Lmao no, old Reddit is peak Reddit. No bullshit padding and wasted space. All the info condensed in a clean and easy to read layout.

The redesigns have all been absolutely trash, significantly reducing the efficiency of using the site, and recently even increasing the tracking methods (have you seen those /s/ links and the urchin metadata they explode into?)

      It’s a preference, I get it.
But there are a few major issues that the new Reddit has that aren’t an issue with the old Reddit view:

      • Forced to login to view certain communities (or if you’re on a VPN).
      • Ads that pretend to be redditors commenting.
      • Needing to click “view more comments” after scrolling past 3 or 4 comments
      • Needing to expand all comments just to follow a conversation.
      • Custom upvote/downvote icons are not supported.
      • If you’re viewing a thread (not logged in) and you want to upvote/comment on something, after logging in the new Reddit immediately redirects you to the Reddit homepage instead of allowing you to upvote/comment immediately where you were at.

Waiiiit the old version bypasses that? Nice

Ads that pretend to be redditors commenting.

It sucks indeed but I believe good blocking filters work with this.

Needing to click “view more comments” after scrolling past 3 or 4 comments

Agreed, though this only seems to appear when not logged in iirc

Needing to expand all comments just to follow a conversation.

Sucks indeed, but makes it easier to read in some cases. Don’t we have the same on lemmy?

Custom upvote/downvote icons are not supported.

Okay I guess. Never really cared as I feel like most subs use confusing icons.

If you’re viewing a thread (not logged in) and you want to upvote/comment on something, after logging in the new Reddit immediately redirects you to the Reddit homepage instead of allowing you to upvote/comment immediately where you were at.

Yea, it sucks. Something they should’ve fixed by now.

Valid complaints then. If the UI doesn’t bother you and you prefer those QoL improvements, then I get the love of old.reddit
