This is my take on a famous Chess Opening Called the Bongcloud. I inevitably
stumbled over this brilliantly named chess opening after spending some time
watching Chess YouTube and random clips that were popular. Here’s my
understanding of it: Since Chess has been around for Ages and the Rules haven’t
changed much, a lot of people have made an effort to develop the best opening
strategies in order to bring your pieces in a favorable position. Nowadays, one
can even consult Chess engines of what the best move is to play in any given
position. This has lead to there being an incredible amount of so-called
“Opening Theory” which are essentially strategies to develop your pieces in the
first few moves of the game, and potentially if the opponent doesn’t know the
position well enough, gain a significant advantage. To some Player and
especially Beginners this can be very intimidating if not frustrating, and
certainly leads to a fair few memes, one of them being the Bongcloud. The
Bongcloud opening is a joke of an opening, where White brings itself in pretty
much the worst positing you could reach in just two moves. You move the pawn in
front of the king two squares ahead, and then follow with the king himself. This
really accomplishes nothing and brings your King in danger. Since the opening
clearly is a joke tho, the opponent often times follows up by mirroring the same
moves and the Players then often repeat moves, resulting in a Draw. Anyway I’m
no chess expert but definitely love the idea of an opening so horrendous one
calls it the Bongcloud xd
