They’d been trying for EIGHT years to get these EV chargers funded for their region and then the mayor watched that channel 7 video about nickel mining in Indonesia. On the basis of that video he called a motion to cancel the install and it passed 4:3. Turns out that he also has some constituents who ‘regularly contact him’ whenever anything about renewables comes up - I’m sure you can imagine the type - and he decided to pull the pin. Side note - the ch.7 doco was debunked - turned out literally nobody uses the nickel from that Indonesian mine in car batteries because it’s too low quality. He also failed to mention what the nickel in car batteries has to do with EV chargers that, since this is in Queensland, are probably powered by fucking COAL.
