We do somewhat control policy by voting. The greens for example reduced nuclear energy. So they lost many votes. Now we are funding nuclear energy again.
If the greens were authoritarians. Then we would only hear how great it is to be without nuclear energy. Only hear the positive sides of it. Opposition silenced.
Then we wouldn’t be able to impact policy on the next election, as there would be propaganda.
