The government revoked Tufts doctoral student Rumeysa Ozturk’s visa due to her pro-Palestinian activism, according to Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who added the State Department may have revoked more than 300 student visas since the beginning of the second Trump administration.
“It might be more than 300 at this point. We do it every day. Every time I find one of these lunatics, I take away their visa,” Rubio said during a press conference in Guyana on Thursday."
The fuck.
“Activism”? FUCK YOU Little Marco. She’s got the mother of all first amendment cases then.
Goddamn these incompetent dipshit assholes.
Good luck filing lawsuits from El Salvador, like the rest of the 300 who didn’t make the news
She had a lawyer iirc
“If you lie to us and get a visa…” That’s rich, coming from a proven liar.
We need to start doxxing ICE agents.
So you did something perfectly legal, and protected by our first amendment, but we didn’t like your message so we’ll deport you anyway.
Fuck Cheeto and his master Elmo
who added the State Department may have revoked more than 300 student visas
May have. They don’t even know.
Party of free speech, everybody!
Aren’t the rights in the Bill of Rights granted by God? I seem to remember hearing that a lot during discussions on the 2nd amendment. The rights are granted by God, and the Bill of rights just says the government isn’t allowed to take them away. I hope you can see where I’m going with this.
What a monster. I wish all the worst for him.
Stay safe, fellow humans…
When someone’s visa is revoked, don’t they have some window of time to self deport?
Not when the geo group can earn a profit off of a detainee. Especially if they get to make an example out of someone who was both here legally and was exercising freedom of speech as is protected by the 1st Amendment.
This means we no longer have constitutional rights.
“If you come here legally, you won’t have any problems.” - Every goddamned republican
I guess it’s not against the 1st amendment since Congress didn’t make law I regards to this? Wtf America
Congress did though, explicitly. There is a
provision within the Immigration and Nationality Act that exempts noncitizens facing deportation under the government’s “foreign policy” provision. The exception, known as Section 212(a)(3)©(iii), says that an individual cannot be deported under the “foreign policy” provision cited by the government if their “past, current, or expected beliefs, statements, or associations, if such beliefs, statements, or associations would be lawful within the United States.”

Ah, but you see, someone in the administration said the phrase “national security” which makes everything legal. Plus, who the hell does congress think it is telling the executive branch that it can’t do something?
This kind of thing is obviously going to have a chilling effect on people here on visas taking an active role in any demonstrations, marches, or other types of organized resistance. That’s the goal.
It’s passed time for any citizens that have been cheering on the demonstrators from the comfort of their armchair to get up, go outside, and participate.
You don’t need a clever sign to hold up. Just be there.
If you drive past a demonstration and wherever you were going can wait an hour or so, stop, park, and go join them.
You can find lots of opportunities to protest near you at https://www.mobilize.us/?is_virtual_flexible=false
Then, when there aren’t any demonstrations currently going on near you to participate in and you’re back in your armchair…
Same as it ever was. Schools will teach counter culture like its this shit to be proud of and then turn around and deport/arrest/ignore student protestors. How many fucken times can you be wrong in a row? Every time? Universities should know by now. They should protect student voices, not silence them.
The school had no part in this. They are defending her.
Far more are cooperating.
In all this reporting, I haven’t yet seen any evidence that her visa was revoked. Seems like that’d be a good place to start.
