If you can heavily associate to a character that easily then there are several good FF titles for this, such as FFX where the male lead hooks up with a human sacrifice then fights god and it’s sequel FFX-2 where the female lead spends the entire game searching for your ghost but that ending can only be unlocked with a perfectly timed input in the Far Planes section.
