at least in my life most people do not have a “reasonably underseood line” where they arbitrarily stop considering animals as animals due to their perceived lack of communication. they have a line where they stop caring about them, but that’s usually about how cute they are, not about how they communicate. if more people understood koalas better they’d be way less popular. they barely have a brain, can’t communicate much, sound absolutely awful…

i don’t think this law would actualy change much here in the states. almost every dangerous spreader of misinfo i can think of did in fact graduate college in some way.

sure, but that’s not what this is doing. it doesn’t say they’ll be held accountable. it just places a high barrier to entry.

i understand the sentiment behind it, but I don’t think this will be effective at curtailing disinformation. it would, however, be a very useful tool for controlling online speech. especially with a government that has so much control over its universities.

we Americans have to get used to being left behind and left out of conversations by real adults now.

there were very very very few platforms where you could post and share streaming video online when YouTube was new.

it was certainly the only free option. the internet was quite young then if you don’t remember.

other platforms rose up around their success, but I’m pretty sure YouTube was more or less unique when it started.

i just think it’s right that an organization takes care of someone that fought for it. ask other externalities excluded. i believe that is a responsibility that anyone that asks others to doubt for them ought to owe.

my point isn’t that the stats are wrong. my point is that pointing fingers gets us nowhere. the point is that we need to look at the actual issues and not focus on identity politics, but i guess I’m fighting against every dollar that every billionaire pumps into every piece of media when i say that.

we’re all being whipped into a frenzy and probably going to kill each other over it. it will probably only make everything much worse.

you don’t have to ignore with whom the problem lies, you have to keep going.

that’s not the end of the puzzle. that’s not a solution. it’s only anger and blame. demographics aren’t a goal or an answer. they are a guidepost with which we can do further research.

pointing fingers does nothing. we need ACTIONABLE solutions. otherwise you’re just spreading hate and division. the who is useful to figure out the how and why. but if you stop there all you’re going to do is incite blood feuds.

trying to find who to point the finger at is the conservative solution. the problem lies deeper. it’s in our social media, our news, our socio-economic struggles, and our culture of “rugged individualism”.

i only know the pricing on those drives because i just had to replace one in a nas device. i only spent money on a nas device because i work in media and need to keep large files for clients. i follow a 3-2-1 backup system because my job depends on it, but it’s not at all necessary to enjoy media.
