Windows 11@lemmy.world•Windows 11 repeatedly promoted Edge, Onedrive and Phone linkEnglish
0·7 months agoWindows 11 didn’t enable Onedrive in my Documents, Pictures and others. I’ve used local storage since I bought my 💻. I hope Windows 11 won’t suddenly enable Onedrive. Folks will riot if they’ll do such a 💩 act.

Windows 11@lemmy.world•Windows 11 repeatedly promoted Edge, Onedrive and Phone linkEnglish
0·7 months agoNo. The promotions annoyed me but not extremely. Anyway, it’s been 👍 to know that Linux has been always there if I left Windows. There’s @level1linux if I wanna know more re Linux. I think Wendell’s an expert.

Technology@lemmy.world•ChatGPT spends 'tens of millions of dollars' on people saying 'please' and 'thank you', but Sam Altman says it's worth itEnglish
21·8 months agoWhen Chatgpt 1st shook the tech world, I said thanks and please. Then at some point I stopped. I’ve just wanted to enter my prompt very fast. Grok 3 and Claude 3.7 sonnet (extended thinking) have been my go-to llm but when in a hurry, I just use the Gemini voice assistant or Meta ai – I have the Messenger app.

4·8 months agoMe too. If Chatgpt is like this, it won’t be as controversial as Google’s glue pizza.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•It's easy to imagine yourself withstanding torture in order to save a loved one... until you hit your thumb with a hammer or stub your toe IRL
1·8 months agoFound your 5-month-old comment by searching zero dark thirty on Lemmy.
It showed that torture didn’t work. Ammar didn’t say crucial info after the waterboarding and during the 🐕 collar torture. Faraj didn’t say crucial info after the waterboarding.
Torture is 👎.
I viewed 0 dark 30 twice minimum. Great direction and acting.
Jessica – Jennifer Ehle – seemed dumb when she met the al-Qaeda 👨⚕️. I think no Cia person is that dumb.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What movies did people look up to during the 80s/90s?
1·8 months agoLately I viewed Close encounters of the 3rd kind. Hasn’t been my cup of tea. Boring plot.
But I’ve liked the time dilation aspect. The previously missing didn’t age. Maybe their velocity was so high relative to Earth’s velocity before landing on Earth. Maybe they were near a supermassive black hole. Maybe both?
It’s a flick so maybe it was magic, not time dilation.
1 reason is that they want as much data as possible. They sell the user data. Or they use the user data to improve their targeted advertising. They want more ad clicks.
Re app versus site, many know how to block ads on browsers. With an app, the firm is hoping they can show you ads. Ads can be removed from some apps but the layperson doesn’t know.

Sync for Lemmy@lemmy.world•Please give Sync a bad rating on the Play StoreEnglish
0·9 months agoHe can post here and on another platform (like Instagram) so the users won’t think of switching.
Your Sync is still 👍 so I suggest staying.
My Voyager’s been smooth. Also, I finally have the cross-post feature. Sync doesn’t have it. I prefer Voyager’s implementation of cross-post over the Lemmy site’s implementation. By “Lemmy site” I mean going to lemmy.world on my 💻’s browser.
Thanks for the info.

Technology@lemmy.world•What’s the most overhyped tech trend right now?English
1·11 months agoPhones are like 💻 now. The year-to-year improvements are tiny. Some factors related to this –
At least for folks like me who sometimes read re chips, chip improvements are 👍. But big year-to-year improvements are probably hard. If it was easy, Apple or Qualcomm may have already designed a chip that was 2 or 3 times faster than the old 1.
So hard to have a clean implementation of under-screen cam and face recognition sensors. Hence, hole punch. Samsung fold has an under-screen front cam but the implemention wasn’t clean and the pic quality is below average.
So hard to make a 🔋 that’s 2 or 3 times better than the old 🔋. The tech world has been so hungry for a 🔋 innovation for a long time. There was optimism re graphene. Idk if it’ll succeed in mass production.

2·1 year agoA traditional soldering iron in my nation costs about PHP 450 (about USD 7.95). The portability, accelerometer, temp control, easy repair and the ability to solder while charging a phone are 👍, but USD 250 is so high.

1·1 year agoI read that pairdrop.net was 👍 too.

Some dislike Marques.
My most negative stuff re him has been his seemingly overpriced Atoms. $ 189.
But his 📱 awards are still 👍.
He picked the iPhone 17 as his 📱 of 2025. Some will disagree.
He picked the iPhone air as his Best design. Some will disagree.
