I worked in politics in DC for several years and I can say with no uncertainty that the DNC and Center for American Progress could disappear and no typical voter would care. Just useless institutions that don’t even do their useless jobs well. Neera Tanden is head of CAP again and is going to be fucking useless again.
Iran doesn’t have nuclear weapons. They’ve enriched uranium to something like 65% to prove they could go further if pressed but no bombs that we know of yet.
Israel’s official policy is to not say whether or not they have nuclear weapons but everyone knows they have them and the “mysterious” test was Israel and Apartheid South Africa working together.
Many more states have the knowledge and capability but generally don’t want to violate the nuclear non-proliferation treaty. I would guess most countries with advanced economies could make a bomb in short time if they wanted to.

I quit GTA V when it told me I had to drive from Beverly Hills to Long Beach and I was just like, “I’ll just play Tetris.”
I find myself playing games that involve exploration or retro arcade games. Missions and assigned side quests often feel like doing chores. I can follow a line on a map and get frustrated in real life.
That being said, I had a nice time playing Breath of the Wild and old arcade games were designed to take your quarters so they can be quick to play if you suck. Gradius doesn’t take me long to die in even with the Konami code.

Grilled pineapple or pineapple tossed in a crawfish boil is excellent and would be a great burger addition. But it can’t just be a slice of pineapple. Too sweet. It would mess up the cheese flavor. You need to get rid of some of the sugar.
Fly fishing would probably be similar. I just want an activity and some water. I can get fish at the store if I catch zero. It’s about being on the water and enjoying a nice day.
Lakes. I live in Louisiana so it’s more “water” than freshwater lakes but during the pandemic, I’d just go out to a lake and cast a fishing pole with no bait and be outside with something to do. I wasn’t interested in catching anything. I just wanted to do something and sit by the water.
Also, it should never be used for art. I don’t care if you need to make a logo for a company and A.I. spits out whatever. But real art is about humans expressing something. We don’t value cave paintings because they’re perfect. We value them because someone thousands of years ago made it.
So, that’s something I hate about it. People think it can “democratize” art. Art is already democratized. I have a child’s drawing on my fridge that means more to me than anything at any museum. The beauty of some things is not that it was generated. It’s that someone cared enough to try. I’d rather a misspelled crayon card from my niece than some shit ChatGPT generated.
My skepticism is because it’s kind of trash for general use. I see great promise in specialized A.I. Stuff like Deepfold or astronomy situations where the telescope data is coming in hot and it would take years for humans to go through it all.
But I don’t think it should be in everything. Google shouldn’t be sticking LLM summaries at the top. It hallucinates so I need to check the veracity anyway. In medicine, it can help double-check but it can’t be the doctor. It’s just not there yet and might never get there. Progress has kind of stalled.
So, I don’t “hate” any technology. I hate when people misapply it. To me, it’s (at best) beta software and should not be in production anywhere important. If you want to use it for summarizing Scooby Doo episodes, fine. But it shouldn’t be part of anything we rely on yet.
I ran a marathon in Italy once on a trip through Spain, France, and Italy with my sister. She speaks fluent Spanish and I can speak tourist French now but back then, I was semi-fluent. (I can read French now and everything is self-checkout but can’t form a complex sentence.)
Anyway, Italian is 80% hand gestures. In France, it’s like “Don’t try, American idiot.” In Italy, it’s like 37 hand gestures and one or two words. I couldn’t find my sign-in booth and I asked if I could run the race anyway and they just waved their hands and said “Go.” And the photographer somehow matched me up with my number that was in some sign-in booth.
I started 20 minutes late and probably came in last place. But every little village made special treats for us so you’d stop and have an espresso and some delicious snack. Perfect marathon. 10 of 10. Would run again. And carb loading in France/Italy is definitely not the worst plan I’ve had.
I have so much more faith in East LA to fight back than anyone in a position of power.
East LA isn’t gonna listen to the California National Guard either. Police is police. They should have started almost anywhere else in America.

This has been going on so long that there’s an 80’s Cheech and Chong parody song about it.
The 1992 riots started in South Central, which is historically African American. East L.A. is sort of the hub of Hispanic “immigrants.” (immigrants in quotes there because America swiped that land after the Mexican-American war; lots of Hispanic Americans didn’t cross the border but had the border cross them).
I don’t live there. I’m just an enthusiastic idiot. I love Los Angeles. So, I can’t do its history justice. Hopefully, someone else can. I have friends there and I go there a fair bit but it’s not my hometown so I don’t want to misrepresent L.A. (I live in New Orleans so L.A. and LA—the postal code for Louisiana—get mixed up a lot. So, I use L.A. for the city. No one else does.)
Whatever side of this issue you fall on, you should at least know that, tactics-wise, joining with the LAPD to do raids in Eastside LA is not going to work how you think it will. There’s movies, albums, books, historic moments in living memory, etc. that warn about that. Start in Sacramento or wherever. Don’t expect East LA to care about your “authority.”
That’s not that much of a twist.
