Our state regularly pulls this nonsense. Vote to keep right to work from happening, then vote in republicans. Vote to expand Medicare, vote in the people who prevent it even though we voted it in.
It’s fucking infuriating. It’s a constant cycle of electing in dipshits that fuck everything up, spending the next 4 years fixing all their bullshit through ballot measures, and then reelecting them.
Every stereotype about us Missourians being idiots is 100% true.
Media is a powerful force. Wasn’t there some study that showed when people were asked about policies, without mentioning party affiliation, they tended to prefer progressive policies from Democratic candidates, even if they identified as Republican?
Yeah, it’s not even going to matter once it is banned federally.
We are a confused state.

Many people vote based on identity and feelings, the only time they vote on policy is when it’s a specific policy issue like this one.
Finally some good news out of this election.
Florida voted 57% in favor of allowing abortion
Unfortunately they’ve (iirc, not that long ago) made it so you need 60% to pass an amendment
And 56% in favor of legalizing weed. Which is exactly why they raised the threshold for ballot measures to pass.
Just in time for a federal ban, whee.

Missouri is my home state. I am glad this passed. Everyone should have the right to make their own decisions about their body.
Also, minimum wage increases seemed to have passed as well.
None of it matters because they voted for it to be annihilated at a federal level.
They also voted against the possibility of ranked choice voting.
Not even just ranked choice. It’s all alternative voting systems that aren’t just first past the post… 😮💨
I have less of an issue with that. The other two issues were more important to me. You can’t win them all
Ranked choice is how you get to vote for a candidate that actually consistently has policies you agree with without being the same as not voting.
