Polling results released Wednesday, less than six weeks away from November’s Election Day, show that a majority of Americans want to ditch the Electoral College and “would instead prefer to see the winner of the presidential election be the person who wins the most votes nationally.”
We’ll get the NPVIC passed the day after a democrat loses the popular vote but wins the electoral vote
I agree that would happen. Unfortunately, because of the vote distribution of red states and EC delegates, it’s almost impossible for it to occur.
As it stands, Dems need to be up in the polls by 6-9 points for the likelihood of their winning the presidential race to be assured. Even then, it’s a squeaker. Look at 2016 and 2020 as reference.
I don’t believe this poll on the grounds that I don’t think a large majority of Americans know what the Electoral College is.
It’s that thing where the number of slaves in your state counts towards the number of electors you receive, but, naturally, the slaves don’t get to vote, right?
That’s where they teach people to be communists, right??
Critical race theory communists forced to undergo gender affirming care, to be specific.
Unsurprising that the majority want a system where the majority rules. (I agree the Electoral College is awful, but it’s still funny.)
The Electoral College has actually been doing the exact opposite of what the founders created it for. It was created so that presumably the electors would be wiser than the voters and nullify a bad choice like Convicted Sex Offender Treason Trump. Instead it literally allowed him to be elected without a majority of votes.
Right: stopping an unqualified populist was the last valid excuse.
Was.
It is ironic, but if this was the case we would probably just see the Republican party shift to be more moderate and collect more votes. Not a bad thing IMO. Cultivating extremism is bad for democracy.
