I like that CTV captions the random stock image they use with it’s date 5 years ago.
I’m not too surprised. We provide a wide open door into a dead end a lot of the time.
Highly educated and skilled immigrants are the most likely to leave Canada within five years of landing, according to a new report commissioned by the Institute for Canadian Citizenship (ICC).
Isn’t it sort of obvious that the immigrants who are most desirable are most likely to move around? I don’t see that as a solvable problem and while I can’t find numbers I’m pretty skeptical that other developed countries look any different but I wasn’t able to find comparable stats.
It’s solvable by offering Canadians better wages and working to lower the cost of living in Canada.
Getting a raise under 2% year over year when inflation went in the double digits in the pas 5 years, along with an out of control housing market, it’s no surprise people are GTFO of Canada. Living in Canada is too expensive for the little pay we’re getting.
That might make immigrants (and people) in general leave less, but I don’t see how that would make high skilled immmigrants leave less than low skill immigrants, which is what the report is measuring.
they also go to usa for that increased income, where even the citizens have the same problem, hihgly skilled, but jobs want people already years of experience in the field, or the search for cheaper foreigners.
highly skilled -> high income -> more money saved -> easier to buy a plane ticket for higher pay
Highly skilled locals, too. Anecdotal, but all of the smartest people I graduated university with have left. It’s a lot easier to land 400k salaries outside of Canada.
