I think that Elon is finding more and more that he never really had any actual influence except amongst the lower-functioning business-bros and tech-bros.
While I agree with the sentiment that the bill sucks, Elon Musk needs to stop being a cunt and fuck off. Don’t meddle in any country’s elections. Fade into obscurity. Noone wants you in their lives in any fucking capacity.
A decade ago if I met Elon Musk I’d have happily shook his hand. Now, I would much rather spit in his eye, slap him in the face and key his personal Tesla.
I wish people who loathe him could pretend to support him when he says and does rare beneficial things and then immediately drop off next time he does stupid shit in order to give him a little pavlovian push in the right direction. But I can’t t even bring myself to do it. So.
On the one hand, he could dump absolutely unthinkable resources into primary campaigns. Given the sleazy tactics he employed previously, it’s safe to say that any primary fight he really threw his weight into would be brutal, dirty, and incredibly damaging to everyone involved. Even if he failed to unseat the incumbent, they would have almost certainly have a diminished war chest and a lot of additional baggage weighing them down going into the general election.
On the other hand, I am not exactly holding my breath while I wait for Musk to make good on a promise. And even if he did follow through, there’s no way he would just throw the money at the campaigns and let professionals handle it. He can’t resist the urge to make himself the center of attention, which can only backfire.
And third, his objection to the bill is not all that shit that it does to fuck the country, it’s that it isn’t cutting enough. Anyone he backs in a primary is probably going to be even worse than the incumbent. The only upside there is that the even more extreme candidate might be more likely to lose in the general election. but that’s not a chance I wanna take after the last election.
I hope he does. I will never, ever advocate for family, friends, co-workers, or employers to have anything to do with any company associated with him, but he can still do some good. I hope he spends the rest of his life seeking redemption and trying to undo all the harm he’s done…
Musk makes all swing states go blue next time. Wonder how loudly MAGA will call the election rigged?
Conspiracy part of me thinks this is on purpose. He’ll weasel this way in, rigged elections will skyrocket, they’ll be investigated and he’ll turn over all evidence, Dems will lose every seat because of it, and he’ll pay off any litigation.
And foreign national shouldn’t be financing politics.
